Thanks for all the awesome feedback guys!

This past weekend I got cracking with the sound, but I was stuck in a predicament between upgrading the sound or doing some other mods. I chose the sound for two reasons.

1. I'm still enjoying the stock feel of the car at the moment and other mods would affect that.

2. I somehow convinced myself that I have half the sound equipment already, but i realized afterwards that all I had was a sub.

Anyway. I used the below :

Alpine Deck
1 x Rockford 10" sub
1 x Rockford 250.1 mono
1 x Rockford 250.4
4 gauge 100% copper wiring
1 x DD splits (Time being) I suppose to get my hands on a JL Audio split system but that didn't go as planned. I think I'm opting more towards a rockford system now to complete the setup. However I am still undecided.

Thankfully the alpine deck came with ISO harnesses. Made life so much easier.

I then got busy with the box. I had dimensions and size requirements to meet for what I wanted from the sub, but i built it to fit side to side next to the rear shock mounts.

I still need to build an amp rack that sits below the sub, hence I mounted the sub higher to accommodate for the height of the rack to balance itself out.

I am not sure about side panels as I don't want it looking too boxed. I want a neat build rather than a feel that its a full custom setup if that makes sense, but will see as it goes along. I also built baffles for the door as aftermarket splits cannot fit straight into the door. I will post a picture of them soon once I'm fully happy with it.

These are the amps I got for a steal from a friend.

Small update :

I had this engine cover lying around. Decided to put it in. Looks so much more neater.

Decided to respray it since it lost color and got scratched so badly. Plus I enjoy spraying things :fencelook:

Hi Guys

Bought some detailing stuff this past weekend from crazy detailer, just a little feedback on the products.

DNA-e Revive Polish & Sealant : Not too bad, I probably didn't notice too much difference due to the color of my car and the time we finished. However on my friends black golf we noticed wonders. Please dont expect it to remove swirls. Application is good. Rubs down nice & easy. Would try something different the next time though. I feel you should probably get your car detailed (Paint correction) and thereafter maintaining your car with this product would do the job properly.

DNA-e Wash & Wax : Awesome car shampoo! Awesome smell as well. The dilution ratio is impressive. A 1 litre bottle can last you months depending on your use. Well worth it and would definitely buy it again.

DNA-e Clay Bar : Can't comment much on this but i was advised its good enough especially if you hand polishing afterwards.

DNA-e Detail Spray : Used this as a lubricant to rub the clay. Well, not much to say other than it does the job. I don't think it makes much of a difference with what lubricant you use?

Woolie wash mitt : Would definitely continue using this to wash the car, fits in your hand and very soft on the paint.

Crazy detailer supreme drying towel : Very big in size but absorbs water nicely. Just a bit of a mission to squeeze dry due to the size. But would also continue using this.

DNA-e new car scent : Would NOT buy this again, not a fan of the smell at all. When I enter the car i actually get annoyed. Its very distinct. Although, the guy did offer to swap this for me if i am not happy and also recommended the leather scent. The cherry is too sweet for my liking. I personally don't think you should want to start chewing your dashboard once you enter.

DNA-e VRT Dressing : Washing a car and not putting tyre dressing just makes the effort worthless. Good tyre dressing always picks up a clean car. However, i wouldn't buy this product again. I was advised to purchase a different tyre dressing but decided to give this a try. The one good thing is that it doesn't really mess your wheels but it has zero shine. Maybe if i apply abit extra it would be better but not such a good tyre dressing. I am sure some may prefer the non shine.

The reason i decided to do a small write up is because i know the difficulty when choosing products. Some may agree with what i said and some may not. There are definitely better products than DNA-e but it was recommended by Crazy Detailer themselves as it is good value for money. I initially went through to purchase Autoglym Super Resin Polish and the Turtle Wax Clay Kit. And even though its more expensive, I was pointed towards these DNA-e products.

I unfortunately don't have before & after pictures and after completing this on the weekend I realized the car does have some annoying scratches/swirls. So a more abrasive machine polish would be needed, but i would rather send it in for this. Other than that. A little satisfied with the end result.

Nice classic little VW

why do you choose a manual gearbox for a daily drive ?
I would go balistically-nuts, if I had to gear up, gear down, clutch in, clutch out every 100-200m in JHB peak time traffic

I always preferred a manual over an auto and still do, even though its not on the "daily driver checkbox". Due to me enjoying manual and allowing me to be more in control, I never once made finding an auto priority. If I'm being honest I actually avoid autos in most cars. I look at it in this way, when the daily traffic is done & dusted and I wanna enjoy a drive and play with the revs, whats better than a manual? I wish to drive a manual more than I wish for an Auto.

There were lots of cars I looked at and to be honest there is nothing more inexpensive to maintain than a golf 1. There is very little electronics. Barely any sensors. I dont need to plug my car on a diagnostics machine to read/clear error codes. A service costs little less than a R1000. Including brake pads. These motors also run forever, parts are cheap, spares are everywhere, DIY is so easy and components are so easily accessible. It is light on fuel. These factors for me define the perfect daily driver.

Does the car have downsides? Sure, it is a hard, uncomfortable ride. There is no power steering, armrest or even electric windows. Handling is not the best & when it comes to long trips i wish i bought something else instead.

I looked at a lot of cars, if my E46 got sold i would have probably spent more on another bm or GTI. I really went onto a 35 Edition buzz, also mk5 and Polo GTI's. I then started being impractical and started searching for S2000's & Ms. But when i decided to purchase while still having the 46, i started looking at Vtec's, Rxi's, but most of all a golf mk2. The favoritism for German always pointed me to BM or VW even though I really admire some of the cars mentioned. I love an mk2 more than a citi. But to find a clean one is hens teeth. And i gathered that I'm gonna end up spending shit tons of money trying to make the mk2 perfect.

Due to other priorities I want to get to in a few years, I genuinely don't regret my decision. I've always ended up regretting a lot but not so much with this. Yes I love new turbo cars and comfort, but there is also apart of me that loves old mechanical cars, the sound, the feel, etc. So theres my reason :)

 I really like this car, well done with the detail Preshan.

My first car was an 84 mk1 golf which I loved. Modified everything on it and few years later I was hijacked for it. :if I had the option or spare cash, I would buy another mk1.

Hey bud

I was recommended the same products by the seller but i have been left a bit underwhelmed to be honest. However, i suspect part of that is down to my lack of skills. I will be sending mine off to the pros and then maintaining it myself. The challenge for me is choosing the right detailer though.

You made the right choice with this car.

My dad bought himself one (with 90 000km) and he couldn't have been happier. Its cheaper to maintain, and for what 's worth --- its sounds awesome!!! (there is just something about the VW motors, even the smallest 1.4 he has sounds good and its stock standard)

He put in good sound too....

Its a nice liveable car with low maintenance and good looks.
