Power Steering Noise

Hi Guys,

When I turn m steering, there is a serious noise coming from the lower car. I checked the belts and they are fine.

From my reading it appears to be the power steering pump as the symptoms are the same. It only makes a noise when turned. Once turning stops irrespective of where the wheel is, the noise stops.

So, to all the experts here...

Is it a big job?
a DIY perhaps - hopefully a sticky?
which pump is best? and where to get it?
Price?

G-Drive has 2....Whats the difference?

I seen a good video on youtube that indicates that a LF-30 pump is the replacement product for these pumps as the LF -20 are the problematic ones. They also recommend to change Power Steering Reservoir and get a high pressure hose to go with the LF-30. Any ideas on where to get the hose as well?

Any help will be welcomed.

Thanks in advance

So, it was my power steering pump. Got a new one from Goldwagen @ R1600 and replaced it along with the belts, oil and reservoir. In my car had the LF 30 pump installed.

Strange thing, I only used just over 500ml of oil even after taking the car for a drive and making sure I turned the steering both directions to the max.

Any Ideas?

Stupid question but have you checked your Power steering fluid reservoir level?

Mine made the same noises and found the fluid was just low. Topped up and no more sound

Just keep your eye on the power steering fluid for the week, check it everyday.

When I replaced mine, though R3k paid for it :blueCry:, I also only used a little fluid to top it up but everyday for about 2 weeks I had to keep toping it up with little by little. So keep a bottle with you in the car and check it every morning or afternoon to see if it drops, it will as all the air is working out of the system.

I replaced the reservoir and pump. my Pump was definitely gone as the level was correct. I did do a top up just in case.

Thanks, I will keep an eye on it. good idea to keep a bottle in the car, just keep it tight so no leaks.
