Possible starter trouble E36 316i Auto

thanx.Hi people I got what I think is a starter problem. The car starts on the first swing at home. The trouble starts when you want to start the car when you want to come home. When you swing it just hours click then a whining sound from the engine bay - loud sound at that. If I'm lucky it will turn over on the third swing but it has taken me almost an hour already.

Is it a starter problem our something else? Is zeemax the only place in cape town that I can take it to. I'm currently unemployed so cost is a big issue but this needs to get fixed as the wife needs to go to work with the car. She currently uses my runabout and now I sit at home .

So I assume when you turn the key the starter just turns but not the engine? This could be problem with the solenoid.

Yes. Engine turns over only 4 or 5 times. What kinda costs can I expect?

Well I got a starter (Bosch) for my 330i last year from goldwagen, cost me R1600

Sounds like it could be the starter motor...mine did that on my 316 before. I have sent you a PM with the contacts of a guy who helped me replace my starter at good prices...
