Porsche 911

I did the Porsche experience at Kyalami yesterday.

Finally managed to get some seat time on the track in the 911.

At first was a bit more circumspect versus my Cayman track experience but then managed of pick up the pace. Car handles the tight and fast corners extremely well. I didn’t feel too much of a difference versus the Cayman, but then again I’m an average driver and wasn’t pushing both cars at the limit to really be able to experience the feel of rear engine compared to mid-engine.

I actually felt this difference more on the road, notably the Clarens trip on some of the passes.

What I did experience on the track, was that you feel the weight in the rear and car hunker down and getting on the throttle at the right time minimizes any light feeling of the front.

Every lap I completed, I got more confident and challenged myself based on what speed I should enter and exit the corners, making sure to keep the right driving line and hitting the apex. My son reminded me after the session that I did miss some of the apex cones.

I now need to do the next level of the Porsche experience which is more “advanced” and at higher speeds. I believe it’s in June; so looking forward to it.

Been a few months since I’ve posted.

No real updates other than still enjoying the car.

Most if not all the use has been either at a Porsche club event, breakfast runs or just meeting the boys for a quick early weekend coffee and 2-3 hour chat.
However past weekend I did use it to go an buy some tomatoes and even then I took the long way home.

Did an event at Gerotek which made me appreciate the car more.

The first thing immediately after an event like Gerotek which included lots of Skidpan time is a wash.

Some pictures from one of the many breakfast runs.
In this environment, it’s absolutely a marvel. The heavy weighted steering feel, the gnarly growl and “back fires, pops and bangs” from the exhaust, the handling when you find a decent road and ear to ear smile are all priceless.
Then when you reach your destination, you sit around the table enjoying some good breakfast and even better chat about cars, the route we just took and the various highlights with a great bunch or car people.

In between all the fun, I used Delux Shine Kustoms to do some basic maintenance on the car.

Some interior treatment as well as the Alcantara needed some maintenance.

The results of the steering wheel was great.

Some of us have another upcoming boys trip to Clarens at the end of this month and looking forward to the Porsches eating up the mountain roads.
