I've heard of these things.
A couple of guys in Germany designed it, and had it built in France as the materials were cheaper there, even though it made the converter a bit more complicated to use. They had to redesign it a bit to suit the materials.
The conversion is pricey as you need to fit an EGR, and then do an EGR delete mod.
This converter is dead expensive, though. Why didn't you just sell the E30 to buy a diesel? Would have saved you a fortune. And you would have had a newer car. You could have gone for an E39 530d.
