petrol smell on e46

Incidentally I read up about it on another manufacturer's forum and sometimes it's as simple as just make sure the fuel filler cap is closed correctly (tight enough)
Getting an error code does not mean that the purge sol valve is defective. Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks on the entire fuel system.

I had the petrol smell in the interior as well and took my car back to the place I bought it from, they re-adjusted the rubber seal of the gas tank underneath the back seats. The smell never really bothered me, what bothered me was that I used a quarter of a tank for 50km:shocked:..... Since then I dont smell any petrol inside even when filling up. I have a 2003 320i f/l

Get the same petrol smell from me 46 318i as well. Also from the rear of the car.Got arounf 5000km till next service so will just wait n see.

If however you find out the cause of the smell and it turns out to be a problem , please let us know.
