Performance Monitors

Hey All,

Anyone ever connect a performance monitor to their car? I got the VI performance monitor lying around at home. It connects to your OBDII port and can measure a whole host of things but when I plugged it in last night my onboard computer immediatelly shows the ! mark!

surely these things arent bad for the cars right?

Comments anyone...?

I've been wondering the same.

I originally wanted to order a P3 vent guage, ended up doing some research and it looks like these OBDII dongles are a better bet in terms of cost and if you have the correct app you can get a lot more data.

You can use the dongle on any car and save the profiles if you have a few vehicles..

I bought the full version of DashCommand on Android, Works the best and the app is pretty easy to use with just a click on some sensors to display more sensor readings. Also allows you to monitor a load more of sensors where others are pretty limited.

I also have Torque Pro on Android, also good but the layout really bugs me sometimes.

Note: If you have an Iphone/Ipad and you want these apps to work you need a WIFI Dongle which go for about R700 - R800 as Apple doesnt allow non signed bluetooth devices on their technology, Hence the WiFi dongle works best.

Cost of DashCommand is about R140 and the cost for Torque Pro is about R60

I had a Polo GTI which I sold for my 135i and tried the dongle that I used on the GTi. Its a Bluetooth ELM327 dongle which I use with Torque Pro and works perfectly for logging and checking values etc.

Awesome device which I bought a few years ago online for around R200 iirc.

Torque pro is the way to go. There is an option to upload to a webserver and you can view data from your desktop as you need to.
