Hi guys,

I'm considering buying a performance chip on my car, seems like it's a relatively easy install process. Was just hoping someone would point me in the right direction. Not expecting a huge change in performance, just been looking for something that will help increase the car's responsiveness.

Has anyone fitted one by themselves? How difficult is it to do? Is it just plug and play?

This is it:

hi, not to answer your question but just to share few things, the e46 328 is a really a fun good powered car, its great for what it is ,also price,i had one ,responded amazingly to induction mods, unlike any other car i had, mine was quick, way faster than the 325i, anyway i ended up putting in a 1JZ turbo motor in.

rather spend money on maintenance items this will be a poor solution it best...

Appreciate the input.

Have already done a significant amount of maintenance on the car, just bought a VANOS repair kit which is the last thing that I needed (for now).

Definitely is, very reliable engine. My only gripe with the car is that it's auto, so it tends to feel sluggish which is why Im trying to explore performance enhancing options.

In no way do I believe in sprintboosters. BUT in this case, and first do your Vanos seals and then decide, the sprintbooster might eliminate the delay in kickdown associated with autos. Just my 2c. I would not fit one to my manual though. I have a performance chip in my 328i. Cant comment on auto but my car did feel a bit nipier. 10kw and 20nm. Not mind blowing but enough to feel on the butt dyno

Thanks Chris.

I was looking at sprint boosters as well but I assumed they would only be compatible with a drive-by-wire throttle as opposed to the cable throttle. I drive in manual mode 90% of the time to eliminate the delay, but bottom end the auto feels a bit lazier.

Do you have an auto box? Key in. Turn once to turn electronics on. Hold foot on accelerator pedal right the way down. Hold for 10 seconds release turn electronics off. Start car. Not sure if it works for cable throttle but it works for my e46

Yup, noticed a difference in the E60. No difference in the E46, cable throttle are quite heavy though, strangely prefer them to drive by wire.

If your cable feels heavy, have it checked! Mine felt very stiff and after taking it in they replaced it and pedal felt much smoother and easier on the foot

If you want something that improves the car's responsiveness save your money and swap in a manual gearbox.

You'll just be wasting your money with an off the shelf chip for NA car.

You will get better gains from a chip that is dyno tuned to your specific car over one that comes off a shelf.
