P indicator remains on after keys removed

Hey All,

New to site and excited about our 2002 E318i just purchsed second hand. Can anyone shed some light on to why the park indicator light light remains on when the car is turned off and the keys are removed? Very puzzleing cannot work it out...

This is normal. Usually switches off after a while.

Check the back lights if it is on as well, the same side as the park...

If you switch off and the indicator is still flicked that side will stay on...

If both stays on then i have no idea.....

Wait.... Are you referring to the P symbol next to the gear lever or the park lights? I certainly wasnt thinking about the latter :=):

If you are talking about the orange light next to the "P" on the gear selector indicator on the gear console then that is completely normal. Goes out after a couple of seconds/minutes. Even my X5 does it, and all my previous 5'ers did it, so not to worry. Just enjoy the car!

yes, P for Park on the console next to the gearshift lever

On E46 it goes off straight away when the car is locked. Check it out.
