For some time now, the rubber pieces between turbo and intake keeps jumping off under load, found some replacements 20240123_085558.jpg20240123_085535.jpg

So got the silicone hoses frome hoseworld with a bit of a flex in the middle. Still learning this engine, found one screw missing on the intake which also leads to jumping of under load. 20240123_085538.jpg

Then while removing , i found that one of the turbo intake rubbers were pretty worn, luckily caught this , it could have damaged the turbo20240123_085520.jpg

Small update

Car went a bit crazy a week or two ago. It started off with a gearbox transmission failure warning, then the Xdrive then a sh!t load of other warnings, luckily for me, when it started i went straight home, the car died in the driveway.

A couple of phone calls to a X5/6 ///M Guru ( According to me ) traced it down to a possible voltage regulator failure.
Ordered the parts from local BMW agent, ( could not find it anywhere else ) .
Took me a night to get to the Alternator, unfortunately did not take any pics.
The following day Got the rest of the alternator tested, all was good and the next night back on the road again.

Hey man, very good news and well done on the work done.
What was the price on the Voltage Regulator?
Any symptoms of Low Voltage or "Charge battery" errors when shutting the car down before the car actually died?
I get the "charge Battery" sometimes on the M6 when shutting down, so either the battery is not getting charged adequately by the alternator, or, i have a pretty big battery drain, either Comfort Access handles, or a forgotten Tracking unit

Mine had this alarm , of which i still have (Battery need to be replaced now). Do you have the correct ( think 105MAH ) battery, it can also give this alarm. I just need to check but i believe it is the first time the regulator was replaced, milage at 185XXX now. These alternators work hard because of their location, evidence of this was how the cowl looked like when i repaired the snails. Brushes were gone on mine. At agents i paid just below 3K, other auto electrical companies quoted me +/- 1.6K for a Valeo unit but could not source me one. GW only have the complete alternator.

The sequence of alarms i had before shutting down.

Transmission failure ( Orange gear displayed )
Xrive,dynamic, stability, abs Failure
Auto level function stopped working
Electrical system failure

Then the i-drive screen went dead, the odometer stood on 60Km/h even when stationary.

I believe if your case was alternator related you would have been left stranded allready. Measure the voltage while engine is running, should be in the region of 14.2 - 14.7V range without fluctuating. Mine was at 14.7V after replacing (230amp alternator), before replacing it, it had a reading of 15.8V and fluctuated when revving.

Respect to this undertaking. Always fascinates me how guys buy high mileage M Cars let alone S63 laden cars. These are the true BMW fanatics.
Wanted an ///M car for long, i believe the S63's were the more reliable choice. Spares ain't cheap to get but which brand is cheap. At least we do save some with labour by doing it myself.

Its part of the joy!

Having a car that you can work on, its intrinsic value thats difficult to put to words. You know whats done is done unrushed, to spec.

Nice thread, keep it up!

Time for some updates, Car siting a tad over 187K now, and two years of ownership this month.
With my weekly inspections inside the engine bay, i have noticed some oil inside the expansion tank. This was transmission oil so up next would be to replace the Transmission cooler ( Ordered at agents ) , while at it, the main radiator would also be replaced, already ordered at GW awaiting delivery. Took the car to FTF in Vereeniging to scan the Gearbox for a service/flush, Nerves went skyrocketing at this moment but luckily, the Box is cleared and still eligible for service, they are using parts and lubricants from ZF. Work keeping me busy this week until Friday , will update later.

Good news on the gearbox bud! Does it have the 6 speed or 8 speed?

Fetched parts. At first, thougt the radiator was ordered wrong, because of the second lower feed line, but saw it is blanked off.

Stripping out the old. At the right bottom of radiator there is a hidden line going into the radiator., have to rwmove splash plate to get to it.20240802_112806.jpg20240802_112810.jpg20240802_112754.jpg20240802_112740.jpg
