so expansion tank blew cuz of a contact with the belt. changed it and did the bleeding/refiling and done the radiator job. car ran fine but got low coolant icon on. even tho that sensor is re-installed properly
drove the car and noticed steady good when still driving. but temp goes up when stopping. made sure of my coolant job everything is right
noticed that the fan never turned ever. checked the big #37 - 50-amp fuse and it was fine
checked the plugs on the lines to make sure i put everything back together good and it was fine

last thing i thought of was wiring the fan - and + straight to the battery. never turned. someone said it wouldnt cuz of that computer mounted to the radiator. any clue wat to do?

Have to run an OBD scan first to check that the sensors are working, no missing signals. If the fan is unplugged and both wires connected directly, it should run, a motor is a motor, so ? dead fan. Otherwise, perhaps water damage from the bottle when it got eaten, the OBD will show this up. Good luck!

Judging by the time of this post, it would be reasonable to assume that the two of you are infact vampires...:=):

Just my two cents...

Welcome to the forum
What car ?
If everything is ok the car should not overheat if the fan is not running . If you have no fan blade on the viscous coupling then the aircon electric fan should come in at higher temperatures . Switch on the aircon to see if it runs , if not it should run when it has 12 volts connected to it .

Does the fan turn freely by hand , no tight spots ? ( Bearing tight or seizing ? )
Good luck .

check the pipe from expansion tank to thermostat - if water is actually circulating, if its not that pipe will be hard and hot... u could also check circulation by opening expansion tank when car is cooler and engine is on u should see the water circulating.

looks like there isnt any circulation. :( what to do now?

its a 323i manual. and yes fan turns by hands freely.. car been doing this for days.. but suddenly outta no where the fan ran just fine. does the thermostat works random when its bad? and does the fan works prior to thermostat order?

Maybe your thermostat? Its probably stuck in the closed position. By the way what car?

Did you bleed the system fully post filling up?
If the system has an airlock the fan will not come in and it sounds like you very likely have an airlock,

To bleed the system open your heater to full fill the radiator tank and let the car idle for a while.
Increase revs to roughly 2000 and release the valve next to the radiator car.
You should see coolant flowing out with air bubbles. Repeta this procedure a few times until there is no air bubbles flowing out with the water.

when checking your water hoses, did you check the hose that leads from the other side of the thermostat into the radiator... Feel if that hose is hot like the top one or if its cool... If cool then definitely you are not having any circulation, so the coolant is not actually getting to the block.

Its tricky to troubleshoot, however you could narrow it down to either the thermostat or the water pump. I would advise you to make sure you have no leaks, take out the plastic guard under the engine just to be sure....

I recently had an issue which cost me dearly when my cooling system problem also started with the expansion tank... Changed the tank and got a new cap, still had over heating (and yes I bled that system to its moer...), thought it was thermostat because I had no circulation but still had overheating - turns out my water pump's plastic propeller was worn from the inside - there were no visible leaks and the water pump was only a year old...

When bleeding system I found that switching the key to position, with the heater on maximum temperature but the fan on at low speed. Take out bleed screw, start filling up nice and slow - as the water fills up the radiator and expansion tank - the water/coolant will start coming out the bleed hole - pay attention to air bubbles (hence filling up slow) as soon as you see the water is freely flowing with no bubbles you can close up bleed screw. Make sure the water/coolant level in the expansion tank is not too much. Close up, take for a quick drive till normal running temp and when engine is cool again check your level....

Hope you come right - let u s know how you get on...

Thank u sooooo much guys thanks for all the efforts
I went and bought 50$ thermostat and took fan off replaced the tstat and put everything back together bleed the air n stuff now circulation is back to normal :Dddddddd
