Over heating the m54

The fan will not come on! Fault Code 279D....I know it works because I have 2 cars (e83)the fan comes on in one and not in the other.
I've changed the following...
Temp sensor, T-stat, aux sensor
even the water pump.
Got the needle to hold at 12o clock.. but with no fan, the engine is destined to overheat.
Surely someone here has conquered this beast!

1 test i done before i had a scanner to Activate the fan, was i pulled the plug on the E46 Aircon canister ( that drying COntainer )
Pretty sure it would be the same for E83

As soon as i did that and and started the car, The fan would spin up at FULL BLAST. its a failsafe for just incase you using AC and that AC sensor on the dryer is not working or the plug is broken

Other than that, try using a scanner that can active the Fan test to see if it goes on.

If it does not activate on on the 1 car but it does on the other, I would start looking at Testing continuity on the Lines for the plug that connects to the fan

These are new and sensible approaches.
Thank you...

So here's the short of it...
The fan did not kick on due to the fact that the compressor didn't kick on due to the fact the compressor was empty of freon.
Fan itself functions on the other car. What a pain!

Going back at this beast again now that I'm on vacation...
Hope I don't have to change the compressor...

Yeah it called for removal and replacement. Once i cleared the fan error with scanner it kicked on...back in business.
