Outside temp sensor issue. E46

Evening gents

So over the weekend my temp indicator got stuck at 50°C. No idea why.. Was doing normal driving.

Any idea what the possible cause may be, and how to fix it?

faulty temp sensor perhaps

I know that when the sensor becomes "unplugged" the temp goes to minus 40 (-40 DegC), but going to plus 50 (+50 DegC) probably means internal short or something similar

go to a scrap yard and get a new probe, or go to Goldwagen for a new one ?
