:thumbdo: Bad news , at least no physically challenging injuries .
If the car is scrapped , buy it back and make a track car , airbags and interior can be taken out , only bit of good out of this story .

Damm!! So sorry to see this!!! Main thing is you are all fine, so the car did it's job from that point of view!

Hmm interesting, plastic front fenders - Leonard, is this the case for all E9x's? Always thought the front fenders were normal steel panels...

Now everyone is going to their cars to knock on the fenders to see if it's plastic :)

Painful process to go through but definitely glad the family is ok.
Sorry buddy.
If airbags popped it's probably a write-off :(

:sorry: Why was she learning on a Cooper?
No matter how new you are to driving, if you can confuse the gas for the brakes, you are not ready to be on the road. Panic is not an excues :argh:

Guess whats meant to happen will happen, tho I was swearing at everyone who had anything to say on the scene..even my dad mentioned to my wife that he had never heard me swear anyone like that in all my life..I'm normally a very calm, cool person.

Anyway just got back from BMW, the chassis and the rest of the car is fine, damage all in came to almost R200 000.00. The damaged panels and everything around will be replaced even if it wasn't damaged. Apparently it is part of the motor plan policy for my car. I asked about the fender as well, this is plastic in order to absorb big impacts and break of. Also easily replacable, fits on with a few plastic clips. The front windows are also designed to shatter and break off so the occupants of the vehicle can get out if you are pinned in.
So lets see how the repairs go... I know I've lost a huge amount of money on this car now, what a waste..car has only 28 501 kms on and was spotless.

I am surprised the airbags deployed.
Aren't they only suppose to be activated at speeds over 40km/h.
Judging by the damage, I definitely believe that you were only doing about 20

Just had an idea...

Will the M3 bonnet fit on the 335...

According to BMW, the airbags deployed due to the impact on my door and due to the car lifting of the ground in the process..

I firmly believe that there is rarely a case of a car cannot be fixed, and by that I mean fixed to be 100%. It's the costs involved, and this covered so you are very lucky!!

Interesting about the fenders - saw this a while ago on an oversees forum and tapped my car's fenders, they sound metallic (of course this does not mean they are), and so thought that this may be the case in other countries, or maybe it's a Coupé thing for weight distribution, but makes sense what you say.
