Opinions: E46 Beading above doors

Hallo all,

I have the chrome beading on the car above the doors at the moment, but I also have a set of matt black beadings.

The car is Alpine White, BMW E46 320i limited edition. Which beading would you prefer, the chrome or the matt black? Did the limited editions come out with the chrome or the matt black?

The Motorplan info says Model: E46 LIM 4 door, perhaps I'm misinterpreting the "LIM" the registration document says that it is a ///M 320i.

Anyway, at least one answered me on the choice of beading.

Mine used to be black then the paint eventually peeled off so I just removed it all, so it's back to chrome. Frankly I don't mind either, you don't really notice it on a white E46. Would be a different story if the car was black.

That would mean some one sprayed it?

Individuals and M sports come with gloss black/shadowline trim. I actually priced them at bmw and got the shock of my life:argh: The normal chrome and matt black ones go for around R2500 per side and the gloss black ones are R5000 per side (R4200 with discount):flyfun: The clips on mine broke by the back doors and every time you opened the door the rubber seals on the door would pull the beading away from the body. Eventually i just used some Sikaflex and never really had a problem since.

The chrome on mine is bent on the right, it looks like a rat chewed on it before I bought the car. Gloss black it is going to be, because I can buy four, almost five sets of beadings from the breakers for the price of one side of chrome trim from the dealership.

Wow - small anniversary, my 101st post

It is very hard to get that trim off without damaging it. Just be careful.

I'd go with the gloss black. Against Alpine White it just breaks the white overall. I've got the gloss black on my car and it looks proper. My 635 has chrome and the only reason it's staying is cos the chrome is period and original.

Thanks,

A true BMW fan like yourself would know, so I am definitely going with the gloss black.

Phew! an impressive list of BMW's you have owned :bravo:
