Hi Guys,

I am looking at the option of a E46 330ci in manual. I dont know much about these cars/motors.. Im not in a hurry, so ill wait until i can find one in decent condition.

Pros/Cons? Specific things i should look for? Problems?

TIA!

Almost everyone on the forum would vouch for the M54 motor. Being manual makes it even better.

From my experience, the cooling system is something to watch for. The water pipes age up brittle and the expansion bottle is known to give up (Not just a 330ci).

Valve stem seals would also be a preventative item that you would want to replace upon buying the car.

It all depends on whether you buy a Gem or a Lemon. However these motors itself are really solid. But being over 12 years old, you can expect some wear and tear maintenance due. Its an overall great though.

Thanks! Forgot to mention, it is a soft top as well.

Agree with what was said above.
The age and standard of rubber/plastic used in e46 means that at some point most plastic/rubber parts need to be replaced.
Check that the roof is not leaking. Sounds stupid, but you would hate to make that mistake

There are quite a few on the net now for sale. Though the asking prices for neat ones are quite steep, the highest price I saw is R169k, best one for the price was R110k pre-facelift though. I would steer away from the bargain buys that have no service history and somewhat have signs of neglect.

Choose one with a new condition roof.

I own one, and it's a pleasure to own and drive. Though I must advise you,
Since it's a cabriolet, the handling is not as the sedan or coupe. It's also thirstier due to more weight.

I doubt I'll sell mine soon. These motors go on forever if looked after.

Thanks for his. I am looking to swap one of my vehicles for this. I have been offered a '04 lci 330i, it has 170k on it but the downside is its auto. How are those boxes? I hardly do any mileage so fuel isnt an issue. The roof works just fine with electrics, should i close it and go through a car wash or something?
