Opel Grandland X 1.6T Auto

Hi,

My mate is looking at a low mileage demo 2018-19 Opel Grandland X 1.6T Auto.
Reviews in the media have been okay.
The car seems to be the same size as CX5 or Tiguan but the used prices are significantly lower (sub R300k, when new is R460k+) for low milers.

Anyone have experience with this car?

It seems that the motor is a Peugeot 1.6T motor (I assume partly shared with the BMW/Mini models of a few years ago?).

The CX5 is a difficult act to follow which is why the others struggle on value i guess. Two of my staff have them.

The Tig is also excellent...

Be careful thinking everything is good value because it has depreciated more than similarly priced competitors. This is true of some things but not of others.

It might have been outpriced to begin with (this is certainly the case here)
It might continue to depreciate at a much higher rate than competitors anyway at which point what you have "saved" on this initial depreciation becomes moot as you might find the Opel depreciates through the floor while others hold more of their value over time.
Speak to other opel owners and see what their experiences are in terms of trading in (even on other GM products) when the time comes...

Personally when I see older gen Peugeot/Mini motors mentioned, it makes me want to run far far away... especially given the Skyactiv motor in the CX5 can be had at the same price. I am not clued up on these particular ones so best he does his research into this/super knock etc.from owners perspectives.

Media these days tend to rave about things that are "just" good, and anything with an "OK" review is either trash or the company didn't pay enough in advertising or gifts at the launch lol. Their bashing seems reserved for the Chinese brands (though truth is I only receive motoring mags as gifts once in a while - can't be wasting money on garbage)

Agree on the CX5 comment - I owned one for 4 years. Great car, but would have preferred the 2.2 diesel over the petrol.

The CX5 comes it at a higher mileage and reduced performance (only NA 2.0 petrol) at the sub R300k level.

I will be checking out the Grandland with my mate pretty soon - will revert on how it goes.

My 2 cents If it has the Peugeot 1.6T engine... I would stay far away. Speaking from personal experience here.

My mate went for a used Fortuner 4x2 instead...

why big difference, much better choice. I would have avoided the 1.6 Auto because Auto and 1.6 mmmmm
