Old M3 or new 435

I did... that is why I'm conflicted. They are 2 different animals. The M3 is raw, noisy, and needs to be revved to extract joy (and it delivers), and it has presence.

The 435 on the other hand is quick, effortless, quiet, pretty (as opposed to having presence), very comfortable, much more modern - and switching from an 80,000km car to one that is almost brand new makes a difference.

I cannot say definitively which is faster, but the M is obviously more special.

I have a 435i and a few other cars.

I have owned a few Mpowers and still say Mpower is Mpower. No need to say anymore.

The thrill factor just differs.

Agreed, but we're also talking about an age gap of 4-5 years between the cars - so the 435 seems to have bridged the gap a little in terms of engineering, comfort and dynamics.

Do you like the quick feel, the noise, the kick in the guts or do you want to waft effortlessly through the air deceptively fast?

I am needless to say a big fan of getting a kick in the kidneys ever now and again. And would drive the 635csi over an e90 325i any day. Even though the e90 is WAY better.

In the end I decided to let the 435i go and stick with the E93 M3 a little longer.

Obviously I was looking at it because I was keen to move to a newer, more refined vehicle, even if it lost some of the drama and excitement. But ultimately, I couldn't see the value in paying what would have been about R250k more to "upgrade" to the newer car.

You made the right decision IMO. The depreciation on the 435i should be heavy and you should be able to get it at a decent price next year.

@tag911 ... what about a boxster or new cayman ... thats if you dont need the extra seats !? ... (R800k odd budget)
im biased right now ... but they really are awesome cars ... and as daily drives ... its such a pleasure with the PDK box

EDIT: i would have recommended a K04 GTI, but thats plenty of power to handle and a hyper car for select days

You're not. I believe you should move forward/up. 435i is newer and so I would have gone that route.

I've got the 435i. Did the m performance power kit as well as an m performance exhaust system thru bmw who now use akrapovic under the m logo. Quite a massive change in performance as well as howling and exhaust burbles
