Evening all,
So I managed to sort out the water leak by purchasing a new water pump and thermostat (e90 320i, 2006) - installed both and so far so good.
I carried on with adding fluids so I could get to the first turn over after the engine rebuild and noticed a puddle of oil on the floor. I know I tightened and torqued everything as I went along so could not for the life of me figure out where it could be coming from. After a little tracing I found that oil was pouring out of a threaded hole on the head right next to the chain tensioner.
Under normal circumstances there would be no oil coming out of this hole so no bolt is present and I cannot find anything on RealOEM. My only thought is that the guys who rebuilt the head did not install something and this channel is now open and leaking oil out. I know the head is used on multiple engines in various countries with a variety of hydraulic applications so am not sure how to deal with it.
I looked through my remaining bolt stash and cannot find anything with the correct thread to close this off. Does anyone have any advice or input?
One suggestion is to try and find a bolt with the correct thread and an aluminium washer so I can close it off.
I took a picture of the hole where the oil is coming out of and another with a temporary bolt inserted - I could not get the bolt in further than about 3 turns so the thread is definitely different.
