Wow this is a lot of oil. My dad's E90 2005 323 only need oil twice between services (70000km)

My E90 2007 320d has never needed oil between services 135000km.

It is! Some seem to use lots of oil and others virtually nothing! I think the problem is that there are many components with gaskets around the engine that can allow oil to slowly leak out and disappear, usually by making its way to the hot exhaust pipe and then burn off, so no physical traces of oil leaking of dripping.

I remember my cousin's Corolla Rxi was also using like 1 liter of oil per 2500km's. When he took the car in, toyota told him its normal, because of the high compression...

My 20 valve RSi never used oil... Until Toyota fiddled with the motor to replace big ends under warrantee! Needless to say, I sold it quickly after that. I haven't touched their products after this experience.

Well, my car has now done a little over 4k km since its last service and the oil level is still showing Max level. So maybe the oil usage that I had just after getting the car was more to do with the engine settling in?!

These engines are known to use a certain amount of oil, and actually most manufacturers are very comfortable to accept oil consumption up to 1 litre per 1000 km as normal - anything less than 1000 km is then considered beyond acceptable! And in the case of the E90 engines, this is also and in some cases more a known issue for the four cylinder engines!!

Just a not. Castrol has changed there formula and castrol SLX is no longer on the market it has been superseeded by Castrol MAgnatec Professional 5w30

it is odd...my 2 cusins and my fren 2 with 325's and 1 330 eat oil...so they carry a litre in the boot..anyone know why the diesels didn seem to suffer from this?...none of the peepz with diesels I know, including mine, had the 'normal' oil burn..

Well both my Wife's E46 and my E90 currently have Castrol Magnatec Professional 5W30 and so far seem to be fine in terms of oil level. Done a bit over 4k km with my car and the level doesn't seem to have dropped at all...
