Noob 135i

Hi BMW guysraise:

I am looking at buying on of these beautiful 135i coupe's

I have a budget of R300k

Looking for DCT preferably.

2008-2010 model

Also what common issues are there to these cars that I should look out for?

I really like the car and its between a 135i or a Audi S3

Any input would be appreciated.

I drive around, not too much, but want a car for everyday drive and some bit of fun now and then.

Hi - Getting a DCT (most probably 2010) for around 300k is going to be difficult. Generally, you can fetch some at around 350k+ so good luck on your search for one :thumbs: The 2009+ models have really improved from their earlier versions where HPFP, injectors, etc were common issues. As far as I am aware, there have been no recalls on the 09+ models so no real issues. If you buying manual, expect to do clutch/flywheel before 70k/80k km. Your decision of s3 vs 135i...go BMW. S3 is a great car but the 135i is certainly something else especially once modded. Also remember, you said you wanted an everyday car....the 135i isnt a sniffer on gas, it swallows and even worse if you plant it now then on your daily drive :thumbs:

great choice, shop around and always ask BMW to check for codes for you, and what was done under motor plan. also try get one with lots off MP left

Hey chap, DCT only came out in mid to late 2010, therefore the budget of R300k is a bit on the low side.
The 135i is an awesome car. I have been shopping for a 135i for a while, so R 300k will get you a decent 2009 manual or step tonic. Yeah, all the best with the purchase!

And nothing wrong with the Step as an alternative for a daily drive.

BTW, stock vs stock the 135i has the gap, modded vs modded, the gap just gets bigger :rollsmile:

I am not in a hurry, I am actually waiting for Nov/Dec to make sure it gives me enough time to pick a car i would love and enjoy

Every time a 135i drives past the sound really makes me wanna drive to the nearest dealer.

Would it be worth it to wait till Dec and add the extra 30-50k for a DCT model?

From what I have heard these cars are really nice.

I am looking for a Black/Silver/White one, and not one with that ugly brown leather interior:nonono:

And how is the resale value on these cars, does it drop fast

No, but the fuel level does if you have a heavy foot.:fencelook:

Yeay, I have driven the S3 before and was really very disappointed with the performance, expected more.

Want to go test drive the 135i and see how it goes, have only heard rave reviews about it, and it looks damn nice.

I drove the black 1 at fouche motors on sat.
Car goes well but has had 2comments. 1 for 93k and 1 for 60odd thousand.
Pulls strong and gear changes are phenomonal. The comments worry me too much to purchase though.

The 3 cars you listed there all seem to be very decent buys indeed. Will go to Autobahn BMW just now and see if they even have that 1 anymore

Is that like when it went in for major repairs?

Just a quick summary of what you mean by "comments" would be nice.

And if I buy a 2009 model, i would like the flappy paddle auto box.
Also What needs to be changed preferably before I buy one.

I really want it to be in tip top shape. do not want to fix or replace parts very soon.

Hey there bud, my 2 cents

I had the s3 for 3 years, did heavy mods on the car, loved the car, I came to my senses an got a dct 135, and I must say I would never look back, the raw power, sick gear changes an the sound of the 135 is amazing...... Both cars used for everyday driving an the 135 is ridiculous on fuel, but worth every cent.... In my opinion, theres more space on the inside of a s3, overall you won't regret the 135 good luck hunting!

Damn just teazing me with that pic, I'm like the coupe more than the convertable, soft top cars just don't do it for me. lol but wouldn't say No if someone gave me one.

The 135i looks and sounds much better than the S3 I must say.

I am 24 years old,
This will be my first RWD car, what can I expect from it, do I need to take it to the track to get a better feel of the handling and how I should be using it.

Should be a complete change from the FWD cars I have driven.

Whats the difference between the DCT and the old steptronic?

If this is your 1st rear wheel I would suggest at least some good skid pan time in the car! The tail is happy on the 135.
I am 23 and have only bought BMWs, old and my 125 and now a 135 and they can still be tricky man!
The DCT is a 7 speed dual clutch auto, lightning quick changes. The step is slower but not terriibly much so. And is a 6 speed.

Comments is if any work has been done on the car. All has to be disclosed before you buy it. The car goes for a 21 point check prior to motor plan change with BmW. Don't be scared when you see comments for R50k, that's merely cosmetic most of the time. More than that is worth investigating.
2009 step would be a great buy bud.

I just got my 135i and every time I get in it , it puts a huge smile on my face:rollsmile:!

The outright power and smoothness of the power is just incredible! I would warn you that if you have any concerns bout fuel economy this is not the car for you !

The steptronic is actually awesome, especially in day to day traffic. The shifts are smooth and faster than what I could with a manual.

Think I will go test drive one before month end time, fuel is not to much of a worry, Work and back is not too far, weekends i drive around 200-400km.
