Non-original parts. How safe are they ?

I was at Goldwagen today to buy some parts for my Corsa. Goldwagen does all German cars. Mercedes is coming next year. I saw in their display cabinets a E36 headlight, complete with glass lense, as well as the fog lights. Will these work in any E36, keeping in mind my E36 M3 3.2 ? I have heard that if you do not fit OEM parts like headlights etc. the onboard computer recognizes this and brings up an error as if there is a problem with the headlight (being faulty). The prices that the stealers ask and what these guys ask are worlds apprt, and what I understand is that their parts are virtually the same as the OEM ones.

Please advise.

Goldwagen seem to be bringing in the better brands than other guys.

As far as headlights on any E36 go the onboard computer won't pick that up.

The easiest thing with aftermarket parts is to take the name of the manufacturer of what you want to buy and Google it, you will find out soon enough if it's junk or not.

I have been using Goldwagen for a long time for various different cars and have not experienced any issues yet. Plus the difference in price is staggering. Like a brake sensor is 550 from stealers and 80 from Goldwagen....same result as well.

Thanx guys !

Johnson, my connection at the one in Centurion charges me R955 for the full headlight and R280 for the full fog light. Compare that to the stealers. Will defnatley be doing some business there.

The waterpump I bought from masterparts was 1/4 the price of the BMW one and you dont have to be a rocket scientist to see the difference in quality. BMW part has a cast plastic impeller and the replacement I bought has a stainless impeller.

Yes they do, I have gotten most of my stuff there (E46 320d), except for a breather, which I had to get from the stealers.

This is good to hear, I will definitely make use of them in the future. Plus I saw on their site that they have 3 shop close to where I live and 2 close to where I work :)

If you have an angle grinder and a case of beer, its really easy :).

You have to wait till you have 10 posts before you can add an avatar.
