No boost untill 3000rpm e46 320d

Hi guys,

Hoping i can get some help.

I recently bought myself a e46 320D 2001.

The car had a boost issue all the way up until the end of rev counter.

I then had the turbo completely redone.

The car now boosts only after 3000rpm, i have a feeling the previous owner had messed with the vacuum hoses.

What im looking for is somebody that can help me diagnose the issue as well as replace and correct the vacuum hoses.

I am based in Cape Town CBD.

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance

Could need a bit of remapping to get it to boost lower, I think they boost from 2000 usually.

Check the vacuum lines, maybe theres a boost leak.

Definitely sounds like a vacuum leak.

And links that could help me check for leaks?

Thanks

In both cases, logging would show both a vacuum leak or if the actuator is adjusted incorrectly.

I am not familiar with adjusting the E46 turbos, but apparently it is a skilled job as one can mess it royally. I have heard people taking it to turbo specialists to get the actuator adjusted correctly.

I would perform a vacuum line delete first. See if this gets the issue sorted before moving onto the turbo.

Hello guys has there been any update on this?

I am having a similar issue, when my engine is not yet at running temp it pulls perfectly fine from 1500 rpm and up. As soon as its been running a while then it only kicks in at 3000rpm and then kind of dips out a bit if I then change to the next gear the boost is still there and away I go.

After I did some searching and researching I did the following:

I removed the pressure tank and placed the vacume hose directly to the black box thing with the other hose going to the turbo actuator. This didn't make any difference.

I then started replacing the vacume hoses, I found one that was closing itself once there was vacuum which went to an acctuator that controlled vents that open and close at the radiator. This also did not change anything.

I cleaned the egr valve and checked that it could open and close before putting it back in. Went for a drive and no change.

I then tried taking a vacuum hose and placed it directly onto the egr and it boosted like never before, I then also unplugged the Maf sensor and it was even better.

My question now is what should I do next? Leave it as is? Blank off the egr and get remapping done?

If someone could offer me some advice here I'd appreciate it. I'd also like to know if I should get a new MAF sensor or where can I get a loan one to see if mine is defective.

My second e46 had boost issues similar to yours up until a week before I sold it. The Mech somehow got it sorted after months of trial and error which eventually frustrated me to a point where I just had to sell the damn thing ASAP.:dunnoanymore:

Hopefully you get yours sorted much quicker than I did:thumbs:

Thanks,

Can you tell me what he said the issue was?

I got it working better today, cleaned the Map sponsor. But still if I drive its better, if I remove the Maf sensor it's like a rocket and then eventually doesn't allow boost.

I did also clean the boost sensor took the car for a drive and she was better, to the find I hadn't put the plug back on. So put the plug back on and drove the same. Can I I assume its my boost sensor?
