No 5th gear on E12 518i???

Please help!

I had the leaking oil seal on the input shaft to the gearbox replaced on my 1982 BMW 518i. The release bearing was also replaced.

Got the car back, and no 5th gear!!! The gearbox was never opened. Also, the gear lever positions is different now, 1st gear is where 3rd is supposed to be and 3rd where 5th is supposed to be!? The gear lever seem to be catching the gear lever housing when trying to engage 5th.

Did/could something have moved inside the gearbox when it was removed from the car and maybe put on its "head" when trying to remove the oil seal?

Is it the Gertrag 245 gearbox that is fitted to my car?

hmmm i wonder if the gear linkage has been messed up? i had this on another car (front wheel drive) though, similar symptoms and had to get it all re-adjusted and greased

Problem solved!!
Surfed the Net and stumbled onto this post in Bimmerforums.com
That bolt circled in Yellow in the pic, was missing from my box, and yes, you guessed it, the bolt was also too long, just as in the post of this pic. I cannot believe that it was something 'stupid" like this, 5th gear restored!!
For info, my box is the 5 speed Getrag 245.
