Next M5 to go 4wd

I could get over the twin turbo thing...

BUT AWD, I have to tell you that BMW is really going to have to "bring it" if they enter into the AWD playing field in sports cars, cause erm, quite a couple of guys have been at it a lot longer....

AWD is fscking boring....

RWD FTW!!! AWD is as far as I'm concerned just a compromise between FWD and RWD, a well driven RWD is still going to be the best!!!

One of the reason I like BMW is that they still have rwd. That said, awd dont have to be boring. With the audi R8 a hint a fun awd have been given but it is all about how the manufacture setup it up. If BMW is going to do it to get power down and give proper bias to rear wheels it could work. If they doing it for safety.... enough said by the others.

AWD is boring... end of story.

I have owned a quattro and a Subaru, so I am qualified to make that statement.

The handling on an AWD is actually so good, it really does make it feel like the car is on rail.

However, the problem is, that if you are a driver, and you like a bit of feedback or the arse to let go by a few degrees, you buy a rear wheel drive.

You can do that with an AWD, but you have to push a LOT harder to do so, and if you then loose it, your at the limit, and an accident then could be fatal, hence, AWD's SUCK BALLS.....

awd + turbo makes sense because the throttle response will never be as crisp with a turbo making it far from ideal for rwd... with an awd platform you can up to boost and not have to worry too much about what it will do to the handling because the awd will take care of it...

i think this is a good move for a turbo... :bawling:

They might just as well stop producing M cars and turn them into 4wd suv "green" prius' if that is the route they taking, and get it over with.
I will never drive such a thing.
e39 was the last real M5. e60 could have been, if only.............. MANUAL TRANSMISSION!

BMW is all about the driving experience so if they throw in AWD it's going to kill it. BMW have always been praised for that perfect RWD drive!

Suppose we will just have to wait and see...

so people just dont read???

this is exactly the same as the 330xi option that is offered on some countries that have ice/snow.

the next m5 will not be AWD as std and certainly wont be available in south africa

lol i did not read the link :mmm:

"no plans to introduce a long-wheelbase version of the M5" this shows they still want to make drivers cars...

Admittedly also didn't read the link (was late) - was mostly commenting on the whole RWD vs AWD vs FWD etc. Some of the locally made BMW's that are for export are the xi models for Northern America etc, so this is mostly an option for countries that experience severe weather conditions where this is a must. Oddly enough, the E60 M5 was apparently offered with an option for a normal manual gearbox, in America of all places!!! :dunno:

Give them a chance :nono:

Show me a bad M car. They have all been pretty brilliant and the people at the M division are more hardcore M fanatics than anyone on this forum will ever be.

Firstly: details are pretty sketchy at the moment. It is possible that it is designed for the colder climate areas where the view of an M car is that it is summer only and people lock them away in snow and comute in thier subaru.
Second: it is possible to have a fun tuned AWD setup with proper bias.
Third: you don't have to get the AWD one.
Fourthly: BMW will have something that can seriouly whip all the AWD cars on the track.
