New user and question on servicing

Hi all,

Hope somebody can assist me please

I am a 320d (pre-facelift E90) driver and am almost out of Motorplan.
I was quoted quite an obscene amount of money from BMW to extend the Motorplan for a year

Any suggestions? Another company or perhaps time for a trade in?

Appreciated
Mark

what is an obscene amount? when you extend mp by time rather than mileage, its usually not too bad.

for example, if your mileage is below 100,000km then extend it for a year. this should be no more than R10k. just remember, your mp will then expire after a year or when you reach 100,000km.

Welcome Mark!

BMW quoted me R15 000 for 1 year extension. :flyfun: (think thats why they inherrited the name 'stealerships' on this forum!)

Our vehicle never gave any major trouble up to date! 3 years later!

If you service it regularely & repair small issues before they become major issues, you should never get near that amount that bmw quoted you within that year! :=):

I was quoted R7000 for a 1 year extension and it would be the last year I could extend it. And I have the same car E90 prefacelift 320d. This was from Auric Auto Claremont

Hi guys,

Thank you for the time for your replies

I was quoted 31k for a one year extension.

To my mind, I would rather trade in and pay 1k more a month for a newish vehicle well within Motorplan instead of this option

Any suggestions? I'm not too fussed about service charges, just if something breaks...I don't necessarily have capital to outlay you know

Thanks again

wow that is high. your mileage must be over 100000km. have you priced around? what is your mileage sitting at?

Mileage is on 98150 but priced it at 97000.
Priced around? Surely this is a "BMW" price and not dealership specific right?

you would think. but with dealerships like supertech around, one can never be sure.

i think your mp extension price is high due to the mileage. its definitely going to go over 100,000km within the year. so thats probably why.

its a 320d. i would definitely not renew the mp. maybe good idea to follow shanep's recommendation.

good luck

Mate, its not gonna explode just because the plan expired.

There are several companies nationally that are well trusted to look after your baby and keep her running without breaking your bank.

Rather spend that extra R1k a month on making her exactly what you want, even changing the wheel colour can make a car feel brand new, get her mapped by a trusted tuner and have some fun.

If you love her then dont give her away and take the knock, which I can assure you that you will take... You are gonna get offered R20k below trade for that car because of that Motorplan quote even from BMW themselves.

Keep her and spare yourself the sour taste in your mouth.

+10000 on Tune Tech

My suggestion is to take the car to them for a complete check-up before MP expires if you're really worried about something going wrong, then book it to BMW to have the car sorted

After that just stick with Tunetech for regular servicing.

You are a hundred percent right! I look after this car like itself child for God sake! It's a different story if this thing is falling apart.

Pardon my complete ignorance but what would mapping of do?

Thank you once again guys

I will give Tunetech a lookup on the net for contact details etc!
Will perhaps also go there and and have a chat to one of the guys

Tell me, the fuel consumption on this car is unbelievable and I find the torque and speed more than plenty for me, would the 120d Sport Coupe be the same?

A mate of mine at work had one and he said he was unimpressed

its when they load custom software on your car to make it perform better.

then you don't need to map your car. enjoy it if you keep it

Welcome to the forum, the end of a service plan is something to celebrate, not worry about. Now you're free to do whatever, tweak a little here and there and make the car uniquely YOURS, not a clone. Flashing the software optimises the performance of the engine, and, depending on the nature of the tune, can turn your little kitten into Simba the lion. Along with a decat and EGR job, these engines respond very well to this, without endangering the durability. That said, a proper maintenance program is essential, preferably carried out by yourself. That way, you get to know your car intimately, and will pick up small things before they become problems. KEEP THE CAR, PLAY A LITTLE, you'll create your dream and a happier bank manager. Enjoy!
