New tyres 225/245 for 323i

Hi All, Looks like the Michellin's are close to slicks and needs replacement. So I come to the best place for advice - BMWFanatics of course !
What are my options to replace the Front (225/17R45) and Rear (245/17R40) tyres. Those Michies set me back 8000 bucks and I am not too sure if they are the best value for money, although I got some 85 000km's from them.

As you can see this is a sport pack.

I heard 235's all round will work. Is this a viable option?
What is your opinion about Bridgestone? And Dunlop?
Or is Dunlop still super slip non grip?
Yokies?

Any advice on sizes, outlets etc most welcome. tx

TWT have Conti Sport Contact 3s on special. R1325 & R1599 (225 & 245). IIRC, was much cheaper about 2 months ago - seems tyre prices have gone up a bit.

Also try Mintys for Toyos.

You could always go to TWT and hear if they have hankooks in those sizes, I have heard a lot of good things from guys that have hankooks, excellent wet and dry performance and they are not that expensive.

msm - thanks - that's more my kind of price. :thumb:
I will shop around, but I need more advise on what I should look for. Can I do the 235 thing?
Yep Milage that I got from those michies are very good - then again, I don't drive like the Arton Senna at all.

You can do the 235 thing...many people do cause its cheaper than getting 2 fronts and 2 rears

if you get 85K Km from a set I would stay with those tires (not those specific ones but new ones like the current ones)

i use Yokohama 225/45/17 on the front and 235/40/17 on the rear of 328iM. A set will set you back around 5K from TWT.

Note : 235/40/17 were originally used on e36 M3.0 and are bit lighter than 245/40/17.

235/40/17 also has lower profile and so helps a bit with acceleration...so is good enough for 323..328

EDIT :
I personally won't use 235s on the front - unless your BMW understeers..?
I also tried 235/45/17 at the rear but this diminishes the BMWs acceleration quite a bit and increases fuel consumption..!
Dyno showed a loss of torque with 235/45/17 @ the rear

We will new tires help me with acceleration on my 320i ? Sorry for intruding but I've got runflats and soon will need to place them (205 conti's at the rear). Will conventional tires be a lot lighter ?

We spoke about this, remember.

I took off the Left Rear last night and put on the spare - what a difference. The vibrating sound is much quiter. I can not see any visible damage. Looks like those Michies can still go a few km's but sure does not sound like it. From what I can see, we are in for some 235's all round. This car needs so much attention now, looks like I need to go see the bank manager :)

and then....

there is Coisman

Nooooooooooo stay away from Dunlop! Had it on my E46. Noisiest fcking tyre ever!

yeah the sp7000's sure are rubbish, but the 6060 is not a too bad budget tyre.. (in my experience anyways..)

I had the 6060's on the e46. It sounded like my bearings were gone, thats how bad the noise was at low speeds.
Could have been the odd rubbish set that was sold to me :dunno:

@Coisman Sorry to do this to your sale bud, just never had a good experience with 6060's, had them in both 16'' and 17'' on the E46 when I changed mags.

ok, so I spoke to my contact and he assured me that these Dunlops would be ok.
They ones that had the problems was the SP 7000, and SP 7000D, the SP 7000 had a very hard compound thus allot of roadnoise,
and the SP 7000D had a problem with balancing, and also messed around when driving, due to the fact that they were directional tread.
The first bunch of SP 6060's (November 2009 to August 2010) also had allot of roadnoise due to the compound,
but he assures me that the new ones he got in stock now are much better that the first one's.

Frikkie, if you like I can try and get other brands for you, but you might have to pay a bit more, say R50-R150 more per tyre. :thumb:
