Hi i'm new to the forum it seems like the best place to ask for help.

I'm looking to become a first time BMW owner.

Looking for a used 2008/9 120i
Have about 150K to spend...

Is it enough to get one still in motorplan?
Any tips on where to look and what to look for?

Thanks

I am teasing you Joel....Its a forum thing...If you look on the home page and check the thread statistics you will find plenty debate on the 320i

For the ball park you looking at you can pick up a 120d/320d. Or even in the 325 range. Not sure if you will find one with Mp left. But you can always extend MP at least for the first year.

welcome to the forum:thumbs:

once here you will never want to leave.

best would be to drive the 120d and 120i then make your choice

why not look for a 320d,or is it a bit big?

See i'm 20 years old i dont want such a big car yet.

I have found a few nice models i will go check out thanks.

Does anyone know what one would pay to extent the motorplan by an additional year?

MP prices differ from dealerships and they take the car year model and service history in consideration. Prices could range from R15,000 - R30,000 for a year.
Cars that just came off MP could be under R10,000 for a year...

FYI, you can't really mod the 2.0L in the 120i/320i (they both use the same four cylinder n/a motor)

For a 150k, if you want to mod, you're better off looking at a 120d/320d (they respond decently to an ECU remap), or you look outside the BMW stable and get a Mk5 GTI. They respond very well to tuning (a 3k ECU remap sees at least 10-25kw gain in power)

Im not a big fan of diesel cars, i stand to be corrected but they dont last as long as petrol cars do and i just like the sound of a petrol a lot more than a diesel. But thanks a lot for the advice.

I have found a beautiful silver 2008 bmw 120i e81 with 82000km on the clock, its still under motorplans and it's going for 155 000. Is it a good buy?

Some pics of the car, it has 115 kw.

I hate to point this out to you, but 4 cyl BMWs are hardly exciting... those 115kw are going to feel rather dull

For my 320i at 98000 with 4 clutches being replaced under plan they quoted me at about R25k for 1 year/20,000 km and at that stage I was doing 4000km a month so I sold the car. If you want to be safe get the maintenance plan history of the car from BMW that should shed some light on the future wear and tear to be expected of the car..

Please do go and drive them, also to keep in mind the fuel consumption on the 115kw NA 4cyl is hectic if you do city driving.. I got on average of 450km on a tank max in my '09 320i and the car was painfully, almost dangerously slow in my opinion.

best would be to drive both, diesel will be the better choice, fuel consumption is better on the d as well, and like the guys say, easier to tune
