There is always metal shavings in the head, how do you think parts wear. Try the flush you have nothing to loose, and it is the cheaper option now. But read up on it first and try not to drive the car before you did this.

He pulled the codes so you know what is wrong with your baby.

The list of error codes says 43, but there is only 12 on that paper, isnt there another page with codes on it.

I see there is an issue with your sound also, do you have sound in the car? 2nd error from the top.

The last error on this page about high voltage, is your battery still ok, why does it give this error?

The DME misfire lot is to do with the spark plug (mechanic sorted that), the misfire at low tank level (your car was most probably on reserve here while it misfired), catalytic converter errors is due to the misfire (car only allow you a certain amount of misfire then logs it), camshaft errors the mechanic found oil sludge in the head at the vanos (which is in the front of the engin next to the radiator)

Where is the rest of the codes 43 - 12 = 31 missing

I fail to understand how the gentleman who did the tests came to the conclusion that the engine needs lifters and cams.

The cams can be rebuilt anyway at a fraction of the cost of new parts.
Lifters in the aftermarket are not expensive.

If they found fillings in the head did he provide you with photographic evidence.

Rolf proposed that he service the car first and then trace faults which from what I read is what the mechanic did so I fail to see the pertinence of your earlier comment about Brilliant Mechanical Workshop.
Be that as it may I would propose that if cams are the cause the diagnostics will show the faults not only as misfires but equally as cams being out of phase.

I would be slow to make a decision about having extensive repairs done without the comfort of knowing exactly what is wrong in your engine.

Good Luck with it and do not rush your decision.

Frankly, I agree with Peter on this one. Brilliant mechanical's initial suggestion of a service (in which they would invariably do an oil flush) is a good start and then take the diagnosis from there. In the context of this other quote, I hardly think it's a "money making" tactic.

Bouncing around between mechanics just to get the cheapest price is generally a bad idea. I personally would have stuck with Brilliant Mechanical (they've yet to steer me wrong or try to empty my wallet). Also throwing parts at a problem rarely ever solves it

Quite a bit of solid advice in this thread, however it seems like your mind is set in a different approach...

Hope you get sorted soon.

Sorry to hear that, these engines are pretty solid. Previous owner must have really messed around with it. :thumbdo:

Hi speed demon..

I have a happy ending.. where do I start..
The miss fire was a broken breather pipe that comes from cylinder head to a air box or air vent..
Cost: 3.5k for all the parts from agents and 3k for Labour which included oil flush and service, cleaning engine bay and replacing gaskets.. Oil filter, tappet cover, oil cooler and few others.

Noisy is almost gone but going to replace all my lifters in 2 weeks time.

This far the car is a pleasure to drive and is driving like a real 330i..

I ordered me a m4 bumber and going to tidy up my girl with a paint touch up as thier quite a few marks on her from the haters.. anyone has advice on the remote valve that is being fit just before your last box.. if open open up it sound like a v8
