Hey fellow fanatics, been on the forum 4 a while although I'm not that active, bt I thot I shuld formally introduce myself.

Currently im in varsity studyn Computer Science. I'm glad this forum exists bcos I've noticed every1 is like family here, keep it up guys!!

Since I'm new to the scene I'm keen on advice 4 my new ride (not so new). I've been fortunate enough to own an e36 318is as my 1st car passed on to me from my old timer. I know u guys lyk pics so I attached a few there.

Wanted 2 know wat cn I do to my 318is to get more power out of it. Its an m42, 93 model. I've done a bit of readin n people say u cant get a lot of power gains from a 318is, bt cmon there must be sumthn i can do...besides the supercharger route. Its gona be my daily driver so wuld lyk it to be reliable as can be. Lastly wuld like to add new rims in the near future...maybe style 32s, or replica BBS.

Thnx guys.

If you want more power at a later stage then don't buy a 4cyl model, just get a 328i from the get go. NA modifications to the 4cyl motors will give you the fuel consumption of a 328i if not worse, yet the power and torque won't be close to a 328i so a 328i will still leave you behind and still return better gas mileage.
If you plan to turbocharge then the M42 is a good candidate as the crank and rods are already forged items, the M44 has a cast crank and rods (weaker). In most aftermarket turbo applications on BMWs you invariably lose the aircon as there isn't enough space for a turbo and an aircon pump unless you get seriously creative in your turbo manifold design.

Also your car is a 318i, not a 318is. The 318is runs a 1.9lt M44 motor and was introduced in 1995.

BTW, your typing/spelling is difficult to read...

@Gizmo apologies for the spelling, used to social networks too much. I guess i'll do simple mods like i mentioned above.... am luvn those style 32s on the e36...are they 17inch ?

Yes they E39 17" wheels.

Do these mods in this order:
Fan Delete Mod
Standard exhaust manifold but with a single 57mm fleeflow s/s exhaust
AFM to MAF conversion with the chip at the same time.

Other mods would include opening up the motor for a 200-300cc displacement increase but its costly.
