Hi BM Fanatics

I trust you are all well and enjoying your vehicles.

I purchased a pristine (Red) 320D M-Sport at a dealer with just one key (only found out after taking delivery). The dealer told me that I am able to have one made but now after phoning around it seems like the process is quite complicated and can run into big $$$$$.

The process explained:
Apparently got to bring in the vehicle with the registration and my ID document.
They need to recode the whole vehicle????
Reprogram both keys???

Is there anyone that could do this without all the hectic shyte at a reasonable price?

from what i can understand the registration and ID is for obvious security reasons.

Reprogramming the entire vehicle thats something new, from what i can recall is you just take your car with its key of course and they will code a new one for you.

They reprogram the car, so that the old "spare" key doesnt deactivate your alarm/immobilizer, it will still however open the door and bootlid... you could go the alternate route of just having another key made, but that would also mean that the person in possession of the spare key can drive away with your car with relative ease

It is for the dealers cost if the car is sold to you it should come with two keys new second hand or a demo let your bank deal with them you have 14 days to return the car and they have to pay you back

Surely there is something in the consumer act that you can use to make them responsible?
They are liable to supply u with a second key, im in the same situation and after some struggle they have agreed to sort me out with a new key at no cost to me, bmw charge around R3000 for a new key and for it to be programmed

They are not obliged to supply you with a second/spare key.

However, you must demand it.
I agree with you, they do state whether there is a spare key tho, in my case they did say there was but turned out there wasnt so they are obliged in my case to supply me with a spare key

I received a quote back from Auto Bavaria Midrand, the total comes to R4800.00. That's going via the dealership . Waiting on quotes from other dealerships and a call-back from E & E in Pretoria.

Re: demanding a key from the dealership. Taking a dealership to task I have found that this has a tendency to bite you in the a$$ later down the line.

I bought a demo 308 Peugeot GTI (3 000 km on the clock). When taking delivery (a week later) the kilo's were close to 8 000km, I was pi$$ed and complained that I wanted a reduction in the price or a full tank of petrol or something to compensate for it, because I was promised that I would receive it with said kilos. Long story short, I received a fuel voucher for the month...think it was about R2500.00 or something...Get this I filled up once, and ended up writing off the vehicle. Wifey drove to work one morning and some police officer skipped red light..I nearly lost my better 1/2, I lost the vehicle, because it was French I had to settle monies o/shas since the insurance did not cover all (lesson learnt, have shortfall). There are other car stories too...

My philosophy since has been for karma to fook the other party up. The dealer was dishonest yes, but I know the Almighty will re-imburse me in some way...

Damn, I would have refused to take the car and cancelled everything, how on earth does it jump from 3000 to 8000 kms. Thats crazy!
