New BMW M5 caught testing

and it may be AWD

Close to 450 kW is a lot of power to send through the rear wheels only. In a supercar, with clever (expensive) engineering, you’ll be able to get away with it, but in a four-door sedan it can result in a complete hooligan machine.

The current BMW M5 is a prime example. As wonderful and exciting as it is to pilot, the 423 kW (of the M5 Competition) makes it a handful to drive close to the limit.

The footage below shows the new model undergoing testing, but more importantly, it seems an xDrive version will also be offered. This means the new M5 could be offered with all-wheel drive.

Equipped with this system, and offering close to 450 kW, expect the 0-100 km/h acceleration time to tumble to 4,0 seconds or below. During our road test of the Competition model we achieved a very respectable 4,10 seconds on our test strip.

Expect the new model to be revealed towards the end of this year or early 2017.

Incredible power :praise: Seems like the F90 will also be equipped with an 8 speed auto and not the DCT

Auto and AWD. Latest estimate on pricing was R2.2M but I think dealers are estimating worst-case numbers.

I was thinking long and hard about this car and it is probably a better idea to wait and see whether there are any transmission issues, particularly with the RWD-on-demand. I think the motor is now proven with very few failures documented.

According to recent report in German magazine Autobild, F90 power will be 608PS and 750Nm. Going to be an awesome car but power wise not that far ahead of an F10 M5 with a mild tune. Of course getting the traction down with the 4WD will really bring the acceleration times down compared to the F10 M5.....

I am with Llew on this. The complex drive train / gearbox will either be brilliant (and possibly change the game moving forward), or because its such a new concept for BMW, it might be riddles with issues.

If I had the financial means, ill sit back for a while and see how it plays out. With that said tho, it looks amazing!!!
