Problems starting in the morning. Jumped car twice this week.
Checked battery and indicator shows black, ie dead.
bought battery in 2007, so 6 years of service.
Stealers want R1900 for new battery.

Is this reasonable or can I exercise other options?

Need urgently and cash is running low.

What type of battery is fitted..?

R1900 for a replacement is very expensive

If you replace the battery use lead-crystal type

Latter is more expensive but longer lasting

I think you can get a cheaper battery for less than R1000 + you will get discount if you hand in your old battery. Battery city, midas, autozone can assist

My E60 battery needs to be replaced soon, cannot leave it standing for more than 3-4 days before the battery low warning comes up. I have not needed to boost it as yet, it always starts, but its a sign of things to come. So i am also in the same boat.

Don't buy battery. Instead buy CTEK battery charger.

My corolla's battery was totally dead and wouldnt hold charge last year. So instead of buying a new battery, I bought a CTEK battery charger. Charged battery. In fact, I charge it every day when I get home from work. Sometimes I forget. But battery doesnt seem to want to die now.

Whats different between ctek charger and a normal charger? Why would u charge the battery everyday?

Just go to Battery Centre and get a new OEM battery from them. They supply the original BMW batteries. It even has the BMW logos and everything and you're good for another 8-10 years.

Why do you want to charge your battery everyday?

If a battery's time is up then it needs to be replaced, not charged mate, or am I missing something here?

Hmm.., seems to me like you have just sorted the consequence and not the problem. Are you saying that after using the CTEK charger your battery does hold charge better, as that would imply your car is not able to efficiently charge on its own(which is another issue).

Are you able to leave the car unattended(with no charger) for more than a day or 2?

I don't think its a good solution to have to charge the battery everyday myself, while the car should be able to do just that. What happens if you go on vacation? Or Eskom is out?

Lookout for Energizer car batteries. They're made in the same factory as Varta, and also have 24month warrantee.

I just replaced the battery in my Corsa, fitted a 651 for R925.
