SPIED: Topless 4 Series?

4series1.jpg

Our spy photographers caught images of a topless version of the new BMW 3 Series, likely to be named the 4 Series Cabriolet.

4series4.jpg

The prototype shows a steel-roof convertible that should be larger than the current model based on the previous 3 Series. Though we can also see it being a smaller version of the 6 Series cabriolet.

4series3.jpg

Speculation is that the new 4 Series range will feature two- and four-door sport coupe variants which BMW will be adding to its 6 Series range as well.

Here is a computer rendering of what it might look like...

I really hope not, why don't they just invent a new segment...or scrap the 5 GT and when they come with a LCi version call it the 4 GT  . Leave the 3 series sedan & coupe with its history of the 3 series.

I have to correct.... only the Coupé will be called M4
The Sedan will remain the M3 :blab:

BMW will offer the new M3/M4 in three body variants: sedan, coupe and convertible. The M3 sedan will carry the internal code F80, while the M4 coupe takes on the F82 label. A major change in the upcoming M3 and M4 models come from the power under the hood. The highly-acclaimed V8 naturally-aspirated engine is being retired and replaced by a more efficient, yet powerful, six-cylinder unit.

Our sources say that for the past year BMW has been testing different powerplants in M3 prototypes, from inline-six turbo engines, to a newly designed and unique V6. Opinions continue to remain split, even among our team, on whether BMW will commit a “blasphemy” by offering the M3 and M4 with a V6 unit. In a future article we will outline the pros and cons of an inline-six and V6 engine.

:nonono: Why call a 3 series convertible a 4 series :flyfun:

Just make an entirely different range of 4 series, that way they will have a whole imagination to explore ie the 4 series could be, Extreme Hot Hatchs(the big brother of the 1 series), a new range of 4 wheel drive BMW's pumped up( Opens up opportunity for BMW to conquer the Rally World), Dull but 4 series Utility van/bakkie a little bit more elite than your average corsa utilities and others ...??? Just some options, they can expand their market!!

Just my 2C!

Guys, I also read that in 2013 bmw plans to launch a 2-series...???

Here are some renderings:

2series3.jpg

Keep in mind though that this is just a render and Scott26 has said that the 2-series coupe will get a significantly different look, especially the front end. This render is just a F20 1 series chopped in coupe version, with no other changes.

There will be no next gen 1 series coupe/convertible. They'll be badged the "2 series" instead.

Article as from RPMgo.com: http://www.rpmgo.com/bmw-2-series-works

Rumors say that BMW is working on the 2-Series which will be a coupe that is scheduled for a 2013 release. The car is rumored to be based on the recently launched 2nd generation of the rather ugly 1-Series and it will also come in a convertible flavor as well. What’s even more interesting is that BMW is working on an M2 version which will replace the extremely hot 1-Series M Coupe, a limited edition model.

2series1.jpg

This decision will allow the German car manufacturer to separate the hotter 1-Series-based cars from the standard 5-door models. The new kid on the block will adopt a sleeker appearance that will feature the nose of the recent 1-Series, along with wider wheel arches as well as a steeply raked roofline. The same rumors say that the car will be tuned in order to provide a sportier handling. The convertible version will probably get an electric folding canvas roof, just like the today’s 1-Series convertible model.

Under the hood it will have just about the same engines that power the 1-Series, including here a 1.6-liter TwinPower 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline unit that in its current configuration fires 170 hp in the 118i model. As far as diesels, the 2-Series will probably get an updated 2.0-liter engine with 181 hp

Even numbers = 2 doors
Odd numbers = 4 Doors or more
They just trying to fox the mistakes inteh original numbering pattern.

I have however been told that the M3 coupe will still stay an M3. This and gone a few times to M4/3, but latest is that it will stay M3 because of brand value.

the world would have had to have gone crazy to name it M4 instead of M3

there might be a 4 series, but I would put money on it being called a M3 Coupe

edit: calypso beat me to it :)
