New 125i or 120d?

Hi guys. Friend of mine is in the market for a new 1 series. He currently drives a G6 Gti. We went in to the dealers and got quotes on both models. Its the 5 door hatch btw. Specced it up with m sport line in estoril blue, 18inch rims, xenons, cruise control and sunroof. There's only a 5k difference between the D and 125i. I know the consumption will be better in the D but in terms of a better all round everyday car which will you go for? Bear in mind the new 125i is not a 6 cyl but a 160kw 2.0T.

125i.

4000rpm is where it starts to get fun, not where you want to run out of steam :)

I haven't driven either though, so I can't really have an informed opinion.

If he is going to do alot of city/stop start traffic on a regular basis than the 120d...

But if fuel consumption is not a major concern then the 125 without a doubt :joy:

Thanks guys. We did go in hoping to drive both but the dealer had neither in stock so we told them to arrange test drives by next week so we can drive one after the other and get an opinion.

Also on the cards is the new Audi A3 1.8T 132kw - bit of a downgrade but good all round car or the new Focus ST which is now the cheapest hot hatch starting at 310k and topping out at 350k with the maintenance plan, leather, xenons and sunroof. That said the Ford can't be compared to the Germans in terms of build quality.

was at bmw today looking at a M135i, sales guys said the 125i is a gem! But if you start to spec it out with additional extra's and so you can look at start level M135i...

just a thought

New A3 is very economical from a fuel pov and interior is very good quality.

+/- R350K with DSG (aka DCT) and leather.

Also prefer petrol turbo

i used to argue that when you buy an audi you get stuck with audi aftersales service or lack thereof. but i have since discovered that bmw service is probably 1000 times worse than that of audi.

bmw are just such good cars to drive when they work, that not much else compares.
