This is a problem to have... How long ago did you buy the car? You may have some recourse against the dealer.. Honestly speaking, i wouldn't go selling the car right away if you can't come right with the dealer, in your hands it may just be a gem of a car waiting for the right owner..

I did the same with my last e46, told the dealer I was taking the car to a reputed panel beater around the corner and LZ gave it a clean bill of health, first thing I believe he checked was the mileage on the different modules and it all tied up,

Btw, my chassis number is a few digits diff from yours, possibly same production month, also check on BMW vin for the spec list that the car left the factory with, it might help a ill more..

The car was bought about 3 Weeks ago, I called BMW and all they can tell me is that most probably the car was in an accident and parts from other cars was fitted and not bought from them :praise: *sarcasm*.. I mean, I already know that part, but apparently there is no way to fix it....

So any suggestions on what to do??

Should I hack the units and correct the VIN numbers, and after finding out the correct KM's on the car, then fix KM all over? Should I try and get my money back from the dealer even though I spent 19K on it the past 3 weeks? Do I sell it and risk being told that I committed fraud??

Tamper dot should show if either VIN or KM differ between IKE and LCM.

Thanks man, I noticed that the scanner matches those 2 up.. There might be a Dot that I might not have noticed, you would have thought such a thing would be more like "in your face" than a little hidden dot..

So I fixed the VIN issue in the ABS module, reprogrammed it to the correct VIN.

I noticed that most of the modules doesn't use the full fin number but the last 7 . :argh: Should have noticed it from the start.

So the only module that wasn't original was the ABS module.

Will find out what the real KM are tomorrow from the dealer, and why there are discrepancies in the mileage

Wow. Just found out the car has bluetooth. Paired it with my phone via the cable, seems that it's impossible to pair a phone without the cable??

Pm Coisman for assistance on the legal side... See what info he can share with you,try and track the previous owners down and Coisman will be able to help there, I do believe that the dealership will still be liable to some extent if you state your case quickly with them in writing, they will have to provide proof of where the vehicle was purchased from and the mileage can be verified. Last and best option is to contact an attorney quickly and be ready to sue the dealership for damages and fraud for tampering...

im sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your car's milage has almost certainly been turned back..

item one.. from one of those shady forums where the guys specializing in this sort of crap hang out :

"M35080 equipped IKE cannot be serviced through diagnostic but directly. The manipulation dot appears only if the VIN numbers of the IKE and LCM don't match and not because of a mileage difference.
Also regarding your bimmer it's likely that your dash is a SW13 with 93S66 eeprom if the car is built within year 2000 and if your dash has two push buttons...but you might have a M35080 too. Just pull the dash out and read the SW/HW numbers; post it here and I will tell you what you got inside.
"
meaning the tamper dot will not light if only milage is changed.. i have not ever tried this, i can not vouch for that..

item two.. the four modules storing the milage, the DME,IKE,EWS and LCM all have the same vin number stored on them.. IF they were exchanged for other second hand units , somebody went to the trouble to correct the vin in the changed modules, but not the milage? btw the EWS (imobilizer/anti theft) module is not easy to change.. for obvious reasons.( the cpu running this module is a 40pin flat pack surface mount with its rom on the chip.. difficult to get to that rom to change anything)

item three.. the two modules that are the easiest to change have the lower milage in memory, the two that are difficult to change have the higher milage on them, but all have the same vin.. unlikely.

therefore the higher of the two milages is likely the car's true milage..

on a different note, has aligning the abs module cleared your dsc light on the dash? if the steering angle sensor error is still present the warning light should still be on ?

What you are saying makes sense..
I will contact the dealer after the visit to BMW, to at least have proof that there was tampering, before attacking the dealership..

The abs module is fine now, but the error of the steering sensor is still present, but viewing live data seems that it's functioning fine??

I have noticed though, that my steering wheel is not straight when I am driving straight, if you know what I mean? It's a little bit skew, could this also cause the error??

On another note, after getting into the PC, I paired my phone to the Bluetooth that the car said wasn't present (When pressing R/T button) via the cable, I made activating my alarm to blink lights and make a sound (Both arming and disarming). Made it so that when unlocking car, and not opening a door withing 2 minutes, that it auto locks. Made the car peep when the car is turned of and the key still in ignition, and some other kwl features.

yes definitely.. there is a function to reset the steering sensor (i use INPA, not sure if where this would be on your reader) that you use when the wheels are in a dead straight forward position. i did mine last while they were doing the wheel alignment..

the steering sensor is a very important part of the stability control.. if the controller can not figure out which way the wheels are pointed nothing will work..

So how did you key in these functions? What diagnostic are ou using? I have INPA and all the coding software but I am not touching that stuff as I don't know how to use it...

Wow! That's pretty scary!!

Tampering dot - did not know about this and did some quick google searching, found this:

I uae the BMW PA Soft, i just go to reprogramming, and basically select the checkboxes I want, or deselect what I don't want.

I see, what should the reading from the sensor be? The sensor itself isnt giving me errors.

When the wheels are straight, the steering wheel isn't??

I will try it again tonight, maybe i did something wrong

And for the cars Bluetooth, went into the Bluetooth module, activated the cars Bluetooth, clicked on pairing, searched it on my phone, entered pin. And that's it, works perfectly

the live data should show zero when the wheels are pointed straight ahead.. which is why i did mine on the wheel alignment lift, you know your wheels are set exactly straight, (usually they set your steering straight again too) then just reset so the sensor reads in the middle (zero- on inpa anyway)

PS: Here is a pic of my cluster, just excuse the dustiness.

You will noticed that I messed up the alignment on the cluster for speed,it starts on 10KM instead at 0KM, with the cable plugged in I noticed in the odo's settings that the offset was 10KM, me thinking this is related to what speed you are driving then the odo adds 10KM to that. I changed it to 0 and then realized the mistake in the odo, I immediately changed it back to 10, but the needle stayed there..

Word of advise to everyone, DON'T CHANGE THE OFFSET.

SO these are the only codes left:

Code:
DME   ->  Shadow-memory:
5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 1, signal line, short circuit to negative
5B/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
5D/12 - Exhaust temperature after catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
          3F/14 - Control unit self-test 3

EWS -> 03/02 - Toleration of changing code increased, key 0

ABS* -> 5E40/A0 - Steering angle sensor Signal not plausible, Offset.

LEW -> 09/79 - No CAN message (ASC)

SRS -> 09/42 - Head airbag (ITS), front left, resistance too high
          Shadow-memory:
09/40 - Head airbag (ITS), front left, resistance too high

IKE   ->  C7/81 - Tank sensor 1

LCM -> 1E/22 - Control unit error in HVAC

AIC -> 40/0B - None optical Initialisation possible

The DME errors seems like the sensors was removed and just grounded, will verify the weekend.

The EWS error is troublesome, have googled it but don't come up with any answers

The ABS error I also don't understand

The LEW error is probably the reason why the DSC / Traction control isn't turning off when the button is pressed or when it is pressed for 8 sec

The SRS Error, will verify if the airbag is still present, and if it is I will just check for a fix to whatever the problem is, otherwise will order new airbag

The LCM is also confusing, googling turned up that HVAC is the air conditioning control panel, the aircon isn't working, could be that there isn't gas in, or that this unit is faulty, but why is it displaying in the Lights control module?? The little wheel on the right hand side where the light switch is to control the position/ vertical level of the lights is not leveling the lights

The AIC error, I have no idea what that is, nor what this module does, but googling error didn't yield any results.

Only part I can help with is that the little roller wheel which drops and raises the headlights, first check that your headlights are genuine, the pirate ones don't have the servo motors built in..therefore they dont go up and down..

Interesting, I see a tyre pressure symbol - does your car have a TPM? I know that this was an option, but I thought mostly for oversees markets pre RFT's??

Yes it is fitted, there are a lot of weird factory fits, i original y though that the previous owner fitted the m3 bumper, but seems that it came factory fitted?? Very strange
