Hi everyone

On Friday, I was on my way to Worcester. As I was driving on the N1, my car dropped in speed and this yellow icon came up. I pulled over immediately and switched off the car, then started it back up after 2-3 minutes, the same light came up. I could still drive, and the light remained on for about 30 minutes, it went away by itself and the car resumed to normal. I took a pic of it. Can someone please tell me what it is and what I can do about it. Sorry for sounding like a noob, my knowledge on the electronics of the car is not good. Oh and I drive a BMW 120d 2005 auto.

Thanks

That's the engine fault light, when it comes on engine power is reduced, the car will enter limp mode

Get the error codes read ASAP

Did you drive through a dust cloud?

Hi Heven, the only dust cloud I drove through was at the graveyard in Worcester when visiting my grandma's grave. No dust cloud on the way to Worcester or back.

if i am correct this is an engine electrical fault.

maybe get the codes read to see what the cause was.

Hi racing snake, can I have the codes read at Zeemax? Or where can I go in the Cape Town area? I'm based in the northern suburbs.

Hey can you give us a update please

I tried contacting Garage 808 but there's no answer. I'm taking the car to Zeemax tomorrow morning. The problem seems to be getting worse as the traction control light is going on as well

any feedback yet :fencelook:

Hi Dippies

I took the car to Zeemax yesterday morning. The fuel filter has been replaced. Also the control unit is faulty and is being sent in for repairs today. I also need to get a new battery.

Hi Dude, just FYI: our 120i had same light a while back, and it was only the VVT motor that needed re-calibration, then our baby was 100% afterwords! :=):

Regarding Garage 808, make an effort to go & see Colin, he is a really nice guy & know's he way around any BMW.

Good luck.

Hi Flex

Apparently there's a big difference with the petrol and diesel 120's regarding the engine management light. The faults found however was with the fuel filter and the control unit. The car is currently at Zeemax in Paarden Eiland for the control unit to be repaired.

Zeemax knows my car very well and they have always provided excellent service for me.

Thanks for the info :=):
