Namibian e30 iS

Hi members, my name is Basil. I am from Windhoek, Namibia. Want to share my car's history. Bought her as a turbo iS but she was seriously messed up. Had a long struggle to convince the previous owner to sell her. When I took ownership of her she did not idle, she did not boost properly. Would only boost at 5500rpm and only up to 0,3bar. First picture I took of her below. Will post more once I can master photobucket on the Galaxy Tab.

These are all before pics

And while she was parked in my garage I decided to replace the dashboard with a fibreglass dash I had bought on the e30 forum. Fibreglass dash required a lot of work since it does not have clips and holes, etc. A few pics of the process. Keep in mind that I started "working" on cars when I bought my first e30.
Dash removed with the help of a write-up off the internet

Decided then to recover the original dash in leather and suede. Upholsterers kept me waiting for 3 months only to return me a dash covered only in suede. Pic to follow soon.

Dash recovered and back in the car

And during the time I was waiting for the dash to be done I removed the fuel tank, and found some pebbles in it. Took the propshaft for reairs and balancing soon to focus on the turbo setup only..

Preparing myself to remove the turbo. First time ever. Took me ages... At least my friend supported me with his presence

Wow man that is a serious amount of work and patience involved. Well done. So what are you going to do with the turbo?

Wastegate off and turbo out, and in with a new turbo ordered from South Africa. Mitsubishi turbo on Alpine turbo manifold

New turbo

And 5 hours, yes, 5 hours later...

Tired just thinking about it all so far... Will return to continue tomorrow. During this time the injectors were sent to be refurbished as well.

Hi members, I am giving you a short history of my car from the time she was turbocharged until the present. All the work that was done on the car before she went to SA for an engine rebuild at Level7, was done by myself and with the help of e30 forum members. Credit to them all the way.

So I lso fitted a new fuel pump. removed the malpassi and fitted a FPR bought from SA. All this took time, and she would still not idle properly or boost properly.

Nice work saving an IS... it's not often you see that. :thumb:

I always wanted to see what a suede dash would look like. I saw some rough picks on the net before, but that was in a race car. Can you post some more picks of how the suede looks in the car?
