N55 engine fault! HPFP....

I guess the fuel pump will pack up at some time. Even on the N55. Have a proper warranty in place and deal with the problem when it arises. Just put it down to wear an tear.

Running the car on low/very low fuel levels will decrease the life of the fuel pump. The pump uses the fuel as the cooling medium. Less fuel prime, less cooling, less suction head, cavitation, pump failure. This is the same principle for any pump, not just the BMW N54/N55 fuel pump.

I think that's is exactly what I did. Range was zero on the dash and still had about 10 kays to go till the next service station. Was only after that that the car started to with the issues.
