N54 routing of Serpentine belt

Hi Guys,

So this Friday I dropped my vehicle off at Tweek performance to replace gaskets on my OFHG and replace the Serpentine belt. I expected to pick the car up at 12pm on Saturday. However it took longer than expected. The Serpentine belt just wasn't going on. It was eventually done by 5pm. Wasn't a huge issue as I was chatting with a few guys that were prepping their VAGs for ODI today.

Anyway, long story short, the way the belt goes on is like picture 2. This might be common knowledge to some of the guys but I couldn't find the information here. So if anyone is doing their belt in the near future just have a look at the diagram below (picture 2). Got this info from N54tech.

So what is pic1 for?

Pic 1 is how it was installed on earlier models. Some belts were getting damaged because they were hitting the subframe under hard acceleration. I shared the link to N54tech to show where I got the information.

Pic 2 works fine for me. Used to do it as per pic 1 but had two belts fail like that. Belt ends up between vibration damper and engine and then eats up the crank seal. Not good.
