N54 Replacement HPFP

Hey guys,

I hope you all are well. So my car has just turned over 100k.

Recently after some spirited driving, I have been getting a CEL and the code P3090 which is HPFP according to my scanner, so I sent the car to Alistair at Xcede and he confirmed that HPFP is on its way out.

The car does take a little longer to crank than it used to and now I just try to drive moderately and not boost it hard.

I have checked for prices on the HPFP with ABM coming in at R10400.00 (Deago is a winner). My question is, I have come across quite a few after market versions on eBay/Amazon (i will post a link below).

Has anyone used these? if so, what was your experience like?

I just purchased my HPFP from the agents when I had to do mine, there was no Deago at the time and had to fork out R16k :fencelook:

From the research I had done then, there wasn't many reliable options that could be executed with speed.. Customs and import charges are another headache :hammerhead:

That said, I seem to recall this make being used by one of the forumites.. Could be @Gavsadler, maybe he could share feedback..

Edit: found the thread, https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=76408&page=4

Hi all,

I've got that OSIAS pump fitted to our X3. No issues at all since fitting it in April 2018.

It seems prices have dropped, because I paid $375 at the time, after shipping, customs and duties I was in about R9k for the pump.

We had the same symptoms, difficulty starting, particularly after standing overnight.

It's gonna be a nice PITA job to replace the pump :smilebounce:

Is it said to be a better pump than OEM? I'm sure you would've done extensive reading before going this route.

If it came down to similar prices for OEM and this one, which route would you go?

I assisted Gavin with the pump install on this car at the time. We bought this one cause at the time there was no ABM/Deago to save us a couple thousands

At the time a new OEM pump was R16700. Quite frankly I didn't have the pockets to deal with that (call me cheapskate it's fine).

I read up some reviews on these and it didn't give me any cause for concern. At the price point as well I was willing to take the chance.

Like I said, so far so good, also running JB so it does have some "extra fueling requirements on spirited drives" :smilebounce:

Thank you guys. Looks like I’m gonna order one. Delivery says 1 months so I hope it will come within that time frame.

Hey guys, some development on this. I notice that the car only gives me this issue when it is parked on an incline with the nose down, and less than 1/4 tank of fuel. Dont know if this is relevant or not.

Could be the Lpfp itself or the bucket.

Remove the pump and inspect it
