n54 335i wastegate adjustment

Good day all,

I am facing a rattling wastegate on my 335i n54. Turbo's were redone a few months both (recon turbos). I told them about the rattle but they never fix it and now they trying to find a solution to a permanent fix.

I see that a lot of people took the car to BMW for them to adjust the wastegate to fix the rattle. I have the following questions:

1) Does anybody know the exact process? Price for BMW?
2) Any alternative companies who can adjust it?
3) Is the a kit to fix it permanently? Does the Turbo's have to come out for this?

I assume that most of the BMW specialists know about the issue and should have checked for it when doing the Turbo's. I won't mention the company yet as they are trying to resolve the issue but they need to do something. Turbo's were not cheap and yet I am facing the rattle. Any assistance will be awesome. Guidance to get them to get it fixed which is not to difficult?

I have seen the kit before. That means the turbo's have to be removed again. I should not be charged again though since I done it a few months back. Will the adjustment of the wastegate arm not fix the issue?

Thanks for the responses so far.

From what I've heard, it gets progressively worse. So if it is the waste gates then rather fix them with the repair kit. One of the more experienced guys can comment.

If the tune tech kit resolves the play in the system take causes the rattle, you should be sorted.

BMW will just tighten a 10mm nut on the shaft which is a temp solution, it rattle again. If you can get to the nut you can adjust it yourself, there are DIY's online.

@akash, you say if. lol. Has anybody done it before or did everybody just sell their car's instead of fixing it? Don't see enough information about this locally. Getting me a bit worried. I cannot be the only person facing this issue out of warranty. Somebody must have tried and tested the fix from Tune Tech. Such a headache to get that ugly rattle fixed.

How risky is the tighten of the arm? Can it cause Turbo's to fail? I did see a DIY guide but for left hand drive cars. They said for right hand drive cars, it is very difficult. According to google though, the tighten of the arm, if done properly, can fix it the issue for a very long time. Might affect performance though.

Sorry bud.

If the Tune Tech kit sorts out the shaft play that causes the rattle. You should be all good.

Mines started to have a little rattle, saving for MMP upgraded turbos. Its the best way to resolve the rattle:rollsmile:

Do you have a JB4?
