Hi there

I have a E46 318i 2004 (N46B20), a couple of months ago the car lost a major amount of low down power at pull aways it sort of goes and then hesitates badly and then once above +-2000rpm it pulls fine. Thats the first problem. And now if i accelerate hard or play with the throttle the eml light comes on and the car goes into limp mode, if i turn the engine off and back on the eml goes away and its fine as long as i accelerate gently.

What i think it could be is the vvt servo motors worm gear that is worn, causing the issue.

Any suggestions on what it might be?

Thanks:rollsmile:

Reading the codes should be your first priority.

If this was on the M54 engine, I'd have said vanos or cam position sensors..

If you're in Cape Town and want to swing pass we can scan your car for you. We're situated in Stikland, pm me if you'd like.

Get the codes read, but then also check the MAF.

We had one & it kept on loosing power & going into limp mode. Went to BMW about 6 times for them to see whats wrong, they claimed it was gearbox related, so reset the software. and did a few other things in the end it was a faulty MAF that they replaced and it sorted the problem.
