So I received bad news from the insurance company yesterday, turns out the 2005 x3 is actually a 2004 x3. On the car registration papers it says date liable for registration 28/10/2004. The car was advertised and sold as a 2005 model so my sums on book and trade value were of a 2005 model. Insured the car as a 2005 when I first collected it. Thought I was getting an awesome deal as the price was R6000 below trade value. Now the insurance company shows me it's only a 2004 model and I paid more than book/insured value...:(

Gizmo, we win some, we lose some....but no need to vent and indirectly call it.

Are you implying that I purposely deceived you ?
No, not at all. You hadn't received the car papers until Nedbank released them to you, deal was already done and paid for by the time LFC got off their arse. I think you were conned into thinking its a 2005 from the person/dealership you bought it from.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with my previous E90, BMW sold it to me as an 08 and when I came to trade it in it was a an 07 according to the papers...

You did a check for me on it, came back clean. I thank you.
Im still loving the car though, although since I did the 3.0lt MAF consumption has gone up to 11.6lt/100km. She is far more responsive now though. Decat, vanos seals and fix the bleedin' sunroof are the next items on the cards.

I do think I need to reset the adaptations or do software for the 3.0lt MAF though as it could be smoother, right now it feels like its in M Sport mode like the E46 M3. Leonard can you share what sort of software was done when you swapped in the M54B30?

I collected the old M54B25 that came out the X3 today from Leonard, this way I can keep the X3's numbers matching. I will refresh it and throw in 3.0lt internals and swap it back into the car, the good Japan Auto 3.0lt that comes out will go into my brother's e39 530i touring.

Soon to be 3.0

Notice the stricter emissions controls Japan had, these e46 headers have 2 pre cat and 2 post cat sensors.

Let us know how the build of the motor progress.

Would be interesting to know what actually went wrong, or if it was just the sludge that killed the rings,

And good luck with changeing the motor on the X3, that front diff makes life increasingly interesting...

No software changes were done other then resetting the adaptions.

So good news and bad news, the good news is I saw and test drove the perfect X3 last night.
2007 (yes I checked the papers this time) Alpine White III, black interior, sportpack, xenons, 3.0d auto, 89 000km, new tyres all round on 18's, oem towbar, working panoramic sunroof, super clean in all senses of the word.
Its being sold by a very close friend of our family, he has just replaced it with a late model X5, the X3 was his wife's car. I looked for faults and couldn't find any, even the test drive blew me away with that 3.0d motor, wow! I guess I should have test driven one before I bought the black X3, wouldn't have even considered the 3.0i had I tested the diesel first.
Onto the bad news, because I didn't do my homework on the black X3 being a 2004 model as opposed to a 2005 model Im now stuck with it as I cannot afford to take a R20k-R30k loss selling it now. Equally I cannot sell the X3 until the original engine is put back in or police clearance is done on the 3.0i motor, for police clearance to be done I need the receipt for the 3.0i motor which I am still waiting for...

If I held out 2 more months I would now be driving a Alpine White X3 3.0d, buyer's remorse indeed.:blueCry:

The 3.0d makes far more sense in that type of vehicle, uses way less fuel too. Oh and SO much more torque...

Sorry for the possible loss Gizmo.
I prefer to think of it as school fees have been payed, never trust the seller, trust the paperwork.

Eish

A better way and non offensive way of saying it would be "always verify the transaction as humans are prone to mistakes"
