My Wife's '03 E46 320i - collected today!

Hi guys,

After quite an elaborate process I found this beauty for my Wife and arranged for a nice surprise for her - she had no idea, and for her not have found out is quite an impressive feat! Any case, for those who didn't see my E46 Advice thread I was initially looking for a nice 325i but in the time that I had I simply could not find anything worth going for. There was a decently priced low mileage '01 model but it looked and felt like it had experienced the wrath of some evil torturer! Went to have a look at a young high mileage "manual" 330i which turned out to be an automatic that had also visual signs of torture! Then went back to have a second look at the poor 325i and then saw this 320i which is in pristine condition in contrast with the others. It is a '03 (facelift 125kw) 320i with 151k km on the clock. Sounds, looks and feels great - just had an overall good feeling on the test drive and look around it, and it is still BMW 6I awesomeness! Not a rocket on wheels but no slouch either, and very flexible engine character makes it a very nice cruiser. Also seems to sip fuel compared to what I was expecting! My Wife is still in shock from her day! So I think all my plans worked out quite well in the end!! :)

Exterior is generally very good, a few small chips here and there including the windscreen. Interior is as far as I am concerned close to mint condition, very carefully looked after. Both front door window mechanisms are on their way out though, so will have to get that sorted out. Wheels and tyres are fine for the moment, but will put a set of 17" on with better rubber! So far extremely happy with my choice and my Wife seems to have already bonded quite nicely with her new car!!! Heard her talking about her as "silver bullet"... :)

Frikken awesome :)

By the way, the window reg repair is very easy, did one yesterday in about 20 minutes.

Just get the regulator, or ask autofever to fit for you as well (new unit, not second hand)

Nice. It's such a joy to find gems like this. Congrats

Thanks, now my Wife has no excuse to "tag along" to breakfast runs and Starlight Diner etc! :)

Now also have to do the whole carport thing with gates! :mmm: :)

Thanks! I am going to of course first see if the dealer will sort this out, or if the warranty that I took out covers this, but if I have to will see if someone locally can replace them with new units too. Is Autofever nationwide or just in your neck of the woods? At the moment both front windows go up but very slowly and you can hear the mechanism is struggling. Going down is when you hear a sort of "kluk-kluk" - rear windows seem fine but will check...

Shame, I still catch my Wife peering out to have a look at her new car! :)

Research the E46 window cable tie method, I have not done a front one before, but aparently the symptoms that you mention can be corrected with a cable tie.

congrats on the new ride for the wife! Looks to be in nick! Yeah the cable tie trick does work, depending of course on how badly the regulator is damaged. Also dont use it to long as is, because you dont want to be replacing those motors!

Thanks guys! And thanks for the tip, will take a look and see what I can find about this cable tie method - yep, for the moment we aren't using the window mechanisms, or at least if we can avoid it!

Spotted a nice set of used OEM 17" E46 Sportpack wheels (style 119) with tyres - going to see if I can get those because they looked awesome on that black 330i that I looked at on Friday! These ones:

Thanks guys, going to arrange to see what those wheels and tyres look like, the current tyres on the car are fairly worn anyway...
