It's not worth the effort just to replace the thrust bearing. I would do the clutch as well. :dunno:

It's the release bearing in the box.
My ex's e46 320d does the same thing, has done it for years and it hasn't given any issues, just sounds horrid.


Agree with Morne. You would also feel a vibration if its the flywheel, especially if its dual mass.
Replace the thrust bearing and you'll be sorted.

I really hope for your sake it's not the flywheel and just the thrust bearing. The dual mass flywheels are expensive.
