My new toy -E90 320d LCI

As mentioned elsewhere I've been looking for a nice E90 diesel that I can use as a daily as I'll be travelling from Benoni to Centurion from the end of the month. The plan is to keep my F10 safely in the garage as this has only 17k km on it.

Anyway, I've managed to find one in good nick and this will be my toy car. If it breaks I've got another one :) This one has just over 100k km on it, 2011 model with sport pack, Xenons and sunroof. I'm actually quite chuffed with the little car and I'm constantly amazed by the grunt that the 2L diesel motor has. I think it's just perfect for what I want it for!!

I also can't resist to 'upgrade' a little, so I've managed to find a set of 18" style 193's as the car came with 17" style 194's (I'm in two minds of selling the 194's as there's pretty much 100% rubber on it). I've also had the dealer paint the wing mirrors black. Next up is a black spoiler (I hate the whole CF thing) and some LEDs for the Angel eyes.

The car is pretty good cosmetically, but it will need some detailing work as I've noticed some swirls in the paintwork at the dealer. I also want to get bluetooth and iPod capability installed so will be hunting down a Mulf2 for the car.

What do you guys think?

Thanks gents, much appreciated. You not gonna believe this, but I only see now that the car has a tow bar on, hahahahha:roflol: That's gonna be coming off the weekend!

Also, I'm thinking of doing a decat and fit a DP. Maybe do some slight software as well? Any suggestions for guys on the East Rand that aren't crooks?

No ways, it looks kak. And I've got nothing that needs towing. If I did, I would put it on the wife's Q5

Howzit, thanks!

I've started a thread in the Classifieds - I'm looking for R5k for the rims and tyres.

If only you were around earlier, I would've bought these with a smile cause i bought my Narrows/narrows with 80% thread Pirelli for the same price.:blueCry:

As I've mentioned before, this car will become my new daily. Issue is, this one doesn't have Bluetooth and having some kind of hands free capability is essential. With my previous, previous E90 I enquired about possible options, like the Parrot or the Dension units but was never happy with the level of integration possible with these units. I also generally prefer to go OEM with these type of features unless there's some other better way of doing it.

With both the F30 and F10 I've become spoilt with properly integrated Bluetooth, and the fact that there's integrated USB as well as I hook up my iPod and basically have my music library with me all te time. With the amount of time I spend on the road, this is essential to prevent me from turning into a road troll.

So, there was really only one option available; I'm going to have to get OEM Bluetooth and USB installed. Clearly, this is not something I can get done at the stealers so I decided to do this myself. I do believe many E90's came pre-wired with phone preparation, so with hope I decided to investigate what I have on my car.

Tadaa:

Eish, this is going to suck...

As it turns out, the E90 LCI's don't come pre-wired if you don't order the option up front. Pre-LCI's all have the wiring done already. It used to be possible to order the retrofit kit but this is no longer available anymore. In any case, none of the E90's came pre-wired for USB either so a little ingenuity is going to be needed.

Based on what I wanted to do, I had to get hold of a MULF2 and would need to get some form of a loom as these things uses the MOST bus to integrate to the Headunit. Cables I can make up, the Fibre links are a problem to DIY so I will have to get a loom out of a donor car.

I will also have to get a MULF bracket, MIC, BT antenna and USB/Aux jack for the armrest. Off I went to MD House to go get all the bits I needed. I was lucky enough to find a donor car with most of what I needed. I had to meticulously strip the loom out, which was a pain because all the wiring in the donor car was all bundled up. I spent 3 hours taking the big looms apart to find the individual cables I needed. This was actually a good thing, as I could see how the wiring ran through the car.

I added 2 pair Mylar data cable for the USB line and then 2core screened cable for the Aux in feature that's taken over by the Mulf2. In order to preserve the stock look, I wrap the loom in the OEM cloth tape as well.
