My "new" e36

Ah no, the engine is not going out for the respray. What he does is strip the rest of the car, eg. doors bonnet etc etc etc off the car and respray it. When the engine does come out at some stage we will do that. Mind you he really does top notch work - he is still old school panelbeater (not a panel fitter) :fencelook:

But yeah it would be cool if I could have the car done properly.

Found a e36 316i. Damaged beyond repair at the rear. Bought the front bumper, all moldings and some other loose parts for a whole R500-00.

You sure it's a 97 model ?

AFAIK the last batch of 320i & 325i was sold in 95 and their replacements were the 323i & 328i...

PS: I would keep it the same colour, just give it a good polish :)

Sorry I looked at it again this afternoon and the color still does not sit right with me.
But on the UP side, I found e36 M3 front and rear discs, brand new. Old stock form a shop here and they sold the set to me for R500-00. The front discs will fit but I am not too sure about the rear one's as mine has got solid discs and the M3 one's are vented. I will check over the weekend.

The registration papers says it's a 1997, lemme check the seatbelts tomorrow.

If I had an opportunity to respray an E36, Avus Blue. Every time. Good luck with the car!

You are right! The seatbelt tabs says model 1995.

Okay, the new keys and emblems rocked up today thanks bidorbuy!
Car is going to Davis today for new windscreen.

I am looking for a few things, hopefully some of you can assist. Looking for the door seals all doors and the weather strips on all doors on the outside.

The car did not want to start up over the weekend. Checked everything that was obvious but could not find anything wrong, pulled the spark plugs and they were fouled with fuel - weird.:yuck:
Then when I could not diagnose it more called the BMW guys, turns out the ECU went bonkers, fuel and spark did not gel together.
Found another ECU in SA awaiting it's arrival. Car is going into spray as soon as the ECU is in.

Due to money and time constraints not a lot has been done to this poor car. But what we have done is gotten a heart transplant to a 325i and removed the auto box an drive train, it now sports a gearbox, prop and diff forma 328i. Respray is going rather poorly due to nasty cold weather we have been experiencing but it is slowly but surely getting there. After the respary it is going in to get the suspension reworked with new bushes and shocks, drop of 40mm is planned.

I have some pics that I will post up in the coming weeks.

The spray work should be completed over the weekend, the car has transformed form that ugly maroon (kak) color to a brilliant white 2K.
The back to assembling the car.

Will try to post up more as it progresses but like I said time and cost is keeping this project to the ground.

That to me is a bad spray job , no offense , maybe im to fussy though on minor details? or on how people generally spray aftermarket spray jobs or maybe the pictures are not that clear to me but to me that looks terrible from what im seeing , there's over spray over the lock mechanisms , bonnet latches , nuts and bolts , bonnet shocks (are those covered in tape? , wiring also covered? , maybe tell him to at least mask up all those pieces that don't have original paint over them .

Pieces that shouldn't be painted over as well like the door latches at least or the wires and bonnet locks . The car would look so much better when complete.

Just my opinion / observation.

Yes everything is covered. This was the initial first coat, it always looks really really bad before it looks better.

Yeah end result will only be in about two months, waiting for some more funds. But I will post up some pics when we collect the car later this afternoon. It is going to the mechanical workshop for some more TLC to the electrics and suspension - buddy of mine so he said he will do it as he has time but should be done within August month some time.

I find this very annoying, just before I installed the foglights I noticed the headlight on the right was different to the one on the left, the one on the left is a Bosch unit and the one on the left is from ZKW both are original OEM, but the ZKW is a Gen 4. Darnit now I will have to hunt down a ZKW for the left hand side as well.....

Setback, the tech phones me saying that the car died completely while they were sorting out the electronics, the immobilizer activated. So nothing works now. The dealer here is asking me R4k to sort this out but I have to buy new keys. Has anyone else got a solution for me on this one?
