Welcome and nice intro there man.

Hope you get all the probs sorted. I just hate it when people take an M and get it tuned by cheap arse people who dont know what they are doing.

This car has been avertised for sale for a looooong time. I feel like im looking in the mirror. When you buy an already modified vehicle, be sure you gonna find alot of surprises as you go along. But if you have the patiences, its worth it. Be sure you find a good tuner, coz if you don't, lots of headache in the long run. It must be someone with turbo experience. Who the normally aspirated guys consider 'good', may not neccessarily be good for you.

i think the car was broken when the guy was trying to sell it ..mayb why it took long to sell.

yeah im looking around for other guys that tune. it has a spittronics managment so need a guy that knows how to tune spittronics and knows the car ..We knew when we baught the car we would have to spend money on it so we are atleast a little prepared for the project.

im looking for someone who will be able to raod tune the car? any sugestions.??..i gues if its road tuned then its atleast abit tuned before i go to the dyno just for fine tuning??...anywhere other than mace who will be able to tune my car..? im in the cape town area..

thanks man

yes i agree..if i built the car i wouldve gone bigger..but for now , ima see what the lil t4 can do.:yuck:..
it was davids car yes..i took the car to idrees agmat's son, and herman at mace is gonna do the tuning. doing the oil service then taking for a tune if i dont get power then gonna hav to pull out the motor
any suggestions on who to take to if i hav any other mechanical issues..??

APS Centre (021 948 9400) in Stikland, Anton Slabbert has owned a few E36 M3's in the past and raced them, so he knows these cars inside out and he has great workmanship.

Did u checkout that link that I put in my previous post? I believe Idrees built that car, so from what you see on that thread, his workmanship cannot be trusted.

hey guys just a quick update on things..

had the car at precision performance (dean) and he tuned the car set up u new map and turned up the boost abit.. he encountered one problem.. he noticed a small sound coming somewhere from the bottom end he believes. he only took the car to 5500rpms and didnt want to push it further because he is concerned of the sound he thinks its possibly a "piston slap" sound but not sure.. but he definately thinks theres a sound under there and is not happy and did not want to push further...

so what to do..what to do???

the car feels 100% better than when i took it to him he said the maps were all upside down nd whole lot of things wrong so he sorted that out but still tuned in safe mode because of that sound he hears..

i cant hear the sound im not sure what he is hearing but he has a finer tuned ear for such things..the dilema is now do we tune on and possibly break the motor or do we strip and open the motor now before we potentially break something and see whats happening inside.. the first 3000rpms feels very rough nd dirty but after that as the turbo spools it really picks up...

so what do i do about this mysterious potentially damaging noise from the bottom end???

any advice would be greatly appreciated

:ty:

You not sure how many hands the car has been thru since they did the turbo conversion, so I reckon the best thing would be is to open up that motor and not risk any further damage.

From my experience a piston slap or piston damage is normally at lower revs when higher torque is needed. Sometimes at higher revs the "slap" will sound softer or actually go away, at higher revs it tend to keep the piston from moving sideways and more up and down, almost keeping it balanced.

This is obviously a generalization and each case can be different.

In my case one of my vehicles had a piston slap and the best way to describe it was when pulling up a steep driveway in second gear the noise would be the loudest. and it can be heard from the bottom end, it actually echo's right through the motor, but is louder underneath.

hope that helps a little.

Just a thought, but maybe the car's timing is way off & it is pinging as a result. Though if it was on the dyno, I would imagine they checked that 1st.

Happened to me with my 16v Golf & I cracked the crank as a result. The sound only came in at higher revs as well

The way i see, its gona go like this...you either gona open up that engine now and go over it, spending about 40k redoing it. You could just keep using the car until major engine failure occurs, and then spend 60k redoing it or when it does break throw in a 2jz and have a bullet proof engine.

howsit gents just a quick up date, we decided to take the plunge and do things the right way from the start we dont know who or what was working on the car in its history but we took the motor out and the head is off so far, we we will be doing new pistons, rings and bearings, will be putting in the good stuff one time.. bottom end will be completely stripped in the next few days and gone through with a fine tooth comb and make sure theres no room for error. the head all seems too be in quite good nick but will be tested for any flaws and cracks. i feel much better taking this route so we know whats happening inside and know what she capable of handling instead of playing the guessing game and be too scared to put foot. its costly but it will be worth it in the end.

after the motor has been sorted out and we are happy with the performance then the car will be pulled into the garage and all interior stripped, having it re done ,taking the carpert out nd having it cleaned, wheels are coming off to be refurbished in stock silver nad new tyres all round, a new lip, wiper cowl and a good detail. im going to try and get the car to thee most stockest form and best condition i can get it.. its going to take time and money..lots of it lol.. but im willing ..i will upload pics as we go along.

stay tuned..

howsit guys so bottom end is stripped, good to find solid forged rods but on the other hand the pistons:nonono: gents what is a good piston to use?? we found out that the piston that was in the motor had almost a CR of 7:1 so it was super low.. adding to the reason why car was not performing low down.. we dont even know what pistons it is.. has no name marked on it..its a cast piston not forged ..now im on the hunt for pistons, theres different routes and recipes i can use but are there any recomendations from the guys here?? i am on a budget so i cant go haywire but i also dont want cheap junk.

i know some guys used the opel ts pistons.. any info??
