My "New" 525 touring

So I am not breaking away from minis yet, but this just seemed more fitting for me to drive everyday than a jazz. So here she is a 2001 525i M Sport Touring.

She only has 146 000 KM odd on the clock at the moment, with one or two small issues but drives like a dream.

I will as soon as I take some more.

Just washed her yesterday.

Small issues I have to sort out is a bit of a miss after cold start in the mornings and on the trip up from the North Coast last week I noticed a bit of oil smoke from the exhaust on the first few steep up hills which I hope was a bit of oil over fill or something simple like the CCV system.

How does the 525 perform with the big touring body?

Well its no M5, but its okay, can't feel it being slower than a stock 525i sedan.

For now, as a daily driver, I will leave it stock and just make sure everything works as is should, cause I know myself, if I start tinkering it will turn into a project car. And I already have two projects going.

It is an epic car. My father in-law bought it to use for their holiday home. But standing is not good for these and het had issues each time he wants to drive it.

Gizmo the M54B30 swap I take it won't be just a straight swap?

Lovely Touring. What small issues are there?

Dont see many Tourings.

CD shuttle doesn't seam to work.

It has a odd miss that comes and goes, at every cold morning start and some times when you boot it. I was thinking it could be a coil pack but after reading up a bit it seams it can be anything. I will first have diagnostics run to see if it shows up anything.

There is one stupid noisy lifter, The sound doesn't go away ever and it doesn't sound like a vanos rattle so I think it is a lifter.

Then small cosmetic stuff like fender liner and under body panels that is sagging a bit, and a few clips on the tailgate is missing.

Remove the panels underneath, especially the metal bracket near the centre of the car that holds the panels underneath to the car. That thing caused endless irritation for me.

Straight swap and you can use your 525i ECU to run it too, swap in a 330i/530i eprom chip to optimise the motor though.

Very tempting, costs involved?

Okay so bar having to cope with about 13.5l/100km the car performs pretty good as a daily.

Four things do require a bit of attention,

Firstly, the car is very optimistic about the outside temperature, I have read a bit and know the sensor is fairly cheap but also read about calibrating it? Any body with some info on that?

Secondly the CD changer is a bit suspect. I thought it was gone as it didn't eject the cartridge but a light pat on the back loosened it and it plays 3 for the 6 cd's now. So I will just clean that.

Thirdly I need to replace number 4 cylinder coil as it missed a few times and diagnostics showed it at number 4.

Then the big one. I had it at two very good guys already and both confirmed that there is a noisy lifter as I suspected. Both quoted me the same amount more or less to replace all the lifters.
Now my question, is there someone that will be able to find and replace just the one noisy lifter, do I go for broke and have all of then replaced or do I risk just fitting a redone head and hope all the lifters on that is fine? Maybe try thicker oil? I don't know what route to take . . .

Replace them all now and never worry about it again.
Will save you labour costs in the long run as you only have to pay labour once.
